Why Isn’t Square-Enix Doing Something Similar to This?

Through my YouTube subscription (http://www.youtube.com/user/tombraider?feature=watch), I’ve seen a lot of marketing, gameplay and behind-the-scenes videos from Crystal Dynamics’ (a Square-Enix subsidiary) upcoming Tomb Raider game.

Given Wada’s recent statements regarding the future of MMOs and the importance of MMOs to Square-Enix (in line with S-E’s considerable investment in FFXIV 1.0 and ARR), I sincerely hope they do something similar, marketing and hype-wise, leading up to the launch of ARR.

I know they have their hands full prepping for beta and launch, but take a look at some of these Tomb Raider videos and imagine something similar for FFXIV. Talk about getting new people revved up for the game…

I believe Abriael mentioned awhile back how there is a huge difference in how a console is marketed vs how an MMO is marketed.

Basically console games are aimed at pushing the most sales in one day, whereas an MMO makes its money with subs, not from selling the game files.

At the very least a hybrid view should be considered, as XIV will be released on both.

Honestly they do have excellent marketing for tomb raider. Hopefully they do advertise at full throttle during and after the media tour. Sadly to say almost everyone I know at my uni either don't know of ff14 or only knows of it bad reputation. SE should consider going back to having TV ads.

On topic: SE should do something like this for sure. Though I believe once NDA is lifted the community will defiantly do stuff like this naturally.

Media tour this week... beta in the weeks after... pretty sure there will be similar marketing in there somewhere. Not to mention the game play videos from players and information on MMO websites once NDA is lifted. This thread is a bit pre-mature...

See... Successful marketing at work... Although right now I don't think we should bother Yoshida too much about doing it. They are busy as it is and the whole point of the media tour is to spread the word on a realm reborn. Hopefully they drop by New York before going back to Japan. Now that I think about it, we have no idea where in Los Angeles they are going and if they plan to visit other state and countries...

If people followed WoW you could tell its greater AD periods were not at start (though it did have some movement then too).

After a few expansions packs you have loads of content and have refined many of the systems so its all sexy and you can retain people for longer, also better reputation (though ARR is a bit handicapped there huh.. lol).

At least I think that's the idea.
