There can be other kinds of healers, but White Mage being the best at the moment for focused heals, they could've had Bard as a support and group heals. And then having Red Mage for spot heals, Blue Mage for monster heals, Time Mage for more support lol.

One thing I think would be cool about having a chemist job is that it would give more significance to those stupid items that drop from mobs all the time that you never use and just throw away. A chemist could potentially use those for making potions, cutting down the costs of the job. At least, I guess that's how I see it working in FFXIV. Kind of like the alchemist in FFX-2, where you would just try combining random things and who knows what you would end up getting. But there was a ton of recipe's, and it was hard to find a combination that didn't result in anything.
I guess I don't understand why some folks don't want variety for the healer's role. If the same things can be done, but in different ways, what's wrong with that? Same thing could be said for DD's. Why isn't there just one DD job? Because each of them has a unique way of doing what they do. And if you could find unique ways of being effective healers than that just adds more depth to the game, and more options for people to choose from.

Gotta agree with Niqote. I want WHM to continue being sole and dominant healer.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUVI5ukXcRI <- This
I am a career WHM so I am completely biased ... but I do not want to see another class healing just as well as the WHM.
In FFXI Dancer was great, SMN was great, they healed but kept their own Identity.
Those SCHs however just rode on the coat tails of the BLM and WHM... I do not want to see that happen again
Man, from the sound of it, we should just have BLM be the best DPS, WAR the best tank, WHM the best healer, and everyone else can go f**k themselves.

No i do not agree, leave the game alone its better then good how it is.
Yes, I too agree that FFXIV 1.0 was good.

Yikes at this thread. :/
Having more types of healers doesn't have to mean having to encroach on WHM's identity. There's lots of room for diversified roles.

I know it's offline, but FF Dimensions had a lot of XI's abilities for each job. Dancer in particular turned into my secondary healer while my White Mage stuck with buffing and the occasional Curaga. Dancer worked so well because of its instant-cast abilities, whereas WHM took a second to charge (every second counts in FFD). Summoner also had the Sylph summon, which damaged the target and moderately healed the party. (I'd love to see the MMO version of Phoenix). Monk was able to target other characters with Chakra, and Ninja had some healing spells as well.
In XI SMN has more than just an MP pool and an expected WHM sub. It has AoE healing from I think Leviathan and Garuda, as well as single-target healing from Carbuncle. Let's not forget tons of buffs.
One cool idea I think I saw elsewhere is an item user, able to expand the range of items to the whole party. Not sure how well this would work in an MMO.
Last but not least, who could forget Red Mage? I know people sort of hate the idea of a job with no specialty, but Red Mage could have great utility if done well. The only problem it faces in XI right now is a lack of anything unique, now that other jobs have access to Refresh using RDM sub.

I am a Main White Mage, and I am not at all threatened by the idea of more Healer-type Jobs/Classes. In fact, I welcome them. Those worried about being pidgeon-holed, well learn other roles if it's a big concern...or be the best healer...ever.
But pretending that White Mage should be the Princess who gets to lord over all the healing in the game, just so you always have a party spot is self-centered, game cheapening and silly. I want a dynamic world where different tanks, dps, and healers all get to play.
Besides, it already happens that people have to 'switch roles' or get skipped for invites. If a team has one white mage, they don't need you to join as a second. They need you to tank, or dd. Why is this okay but having 2 different types of healers in game who have different styles of healing is not? Not to mention, there really is a 'White Mage' shortage going on in game at the moment and we need more healers/more types of healers if large-party play is gonna succeed...
