I don't think you understand the position of the "party grind" people. Their position is not "we want to be able to party grind in a meaningful way", their position is "we want everyone else to be unable to do anything besides party grind in static camps in non-instanced areas with non-instanced mobs".
I'll still be questing >.> I'm a lore/quest completionist I have to do every single one in game~
"Thy life is a river to bear rapture and sorrow
To listen to suffer to entrust until tomorrow
In one fleeting moment, from the land doth life flow
Yet in one fleeting moment for the new leaf doth grow"
It's an MMO. In MMO's, you have choice. You can choose not to do quests for EXP.
Compromise reached.
Nice one OP for putting some time and thought into your post.
It's a decent concept, if the game bends toward the similar battle style we saw in FFXI, but from what I've seen so far, that won't be the case. In pre-WotG FFXI, until colibri camps, there was a fair amount of down-time in an XP party. (whether that be waiting for mobs to spawn, waiting for the puller to pull, waiting for the mages' MP, or waiting for a replacement to choco out from the nearest hub, depending on your level). That gave an awful lot of social time, and you'd be back to the same spot over the next couple of days, see the same players, make friends, etc.
For me, at least, 1.0 was a very different experience. The pace of XP gain was too great doing solo leves to necessitate partying; battles and dungeons were the only time I'd team up with others and make friends (outside the down-time in Ul'dah and at Atomos) and the only times I would see people regularly in the field was when I was grinding out the leve, behest and gathering achievements.
So yeah, nice idea. Might not be for XIV.
However, you *did* get me thinking, if something like this *was* in a game, it would be cool that once you've killed your target 200-500 mobs, a Notorious Monster appears!
It could drop a trophy to put on the wall in the captain's cabin of your Free Company Airship, or suchlike, and be highly collectible. Once you have all the available trophies, your FC would get an awesomemegasuperbonus like increased movement speed or 1% off your AH listing fees or... Hmm might make another thread for this before I disappear off-topic for good!
I like the idea, however it sounds very similar to leves tbh
People should consider that people have different preferences, this guy is trying to offer a solution to a problem so there's no need to bring hate to the thread.
I personally like to grind and to quest and expect there to be the option for both. If we're realistic we all know both options will eventually be available anyway.
Way to troll. In fact, the 'party grind ppl' have simply been asking for open world pt grind mobs to simply be included as a leveling option equally to quest-based leveling.. Ya kno.. Because YoshiP originally said the focus was on quest based leveling and mob grinding XP wasn't nearly as efficient as questing in Alpha..I don't think you understand the position of the "party grind" people. Their position is not "we want to be able to party grind in a meaningful way", their position is "we want everyone else to be unable to do anything besides party grind in static camps in non-instanced areas with non-instanced mobs".
It's actually your 'camp' that's taken the 'because I don't like it, let's try to screw over the ppl that do' mentality on these forums.. You don't have to open world pt grind.. Your quests will be there for you to do as you please all the way to 50, that's already confirmed.. The rest of us just want our good mobs included too, yet that selfish ideal you all have adopted forces you to come here for what exactly?? To ask SE to discriminate against there XI crowd and anyone else who doesn't like quest-based leveling? Right..
I cannot logically take the stance of "let's screw other people over" because it is impossible for me not to grind mobs while questing. "Screwing over" the grind group necessarily screws me over too, but the converse is not true. It is a completely one-sided argument coming from the grind people being unhappy that the rest of the community is not going to be forced into grouping.
They already know the solution to this. At least, I'd think they do. People need to be given an incentive to party for exp as a group vs. solo activity. That incentive ought to be faster exp rates. With thinking like that I don't think questing exp and grinding for it are mutually exclusive as far as taking place in the game. In fact, there should be greater exp rewards for questing as a group (and not just pissy pointless bonuses). SE just needs to figure out how to balance it.
I like group grinding. Not necessarily for the exp, but because I find that it's far more interesting than running about soloing "kill x number of this mob" quests repeatedly for exp. You meet interesting people and the community comes together. It's a fun way of doing things to me.
So both forms of leveling should exist, but if SE creates the game such that grouping for exp is a chore then people will naturally gravitate to just do their own thing; something which made 1.0 kind of stale. What we don't need is XI's forced grouping. You weren't getting any exp unless you were partying in XI (short of BST and SMN perhaps). That kind of strictness is outdated.
