what's the point of having maint on it? and why until beta starts? they might as well say that they will turn it into beta forum? unless they wont, in which case...why do maint on it? if i'm not mistaken, you cant post on alpha forum any longer anyways...
if it's unavailable until beta starts...does that mean beta starts a bit early, or will alpha forum be unavailable for weeks? why even keep it, and have it there after beta start?

Isn't it obvious? They're turning it into the new Beta tester forums and need that time to convert it in preparation for the start of the Beta. Although I would have thought it would have been easier to just make whole new forums for the Beta however.

I guess there must be some kind of shared account data that both forums would use, so most likely it's just easier to convert the Alpha forum to the Beta one.

They can't wipe. Formality issues. It is probably so they can remake a new forum using the alpha forum as base for the design...
