In WoW, yea I'm *that* guy, they have a great variety of nameplate customization. You can toggle the visibility of guild names, your own name, all other's players name (excluding your own), NPC names, pet names, and special event titles. I may have missed some but that was plenty. Options are a good thing.
As much as I hate WoW it does one thing great not many people can argue, great UI that's easily and highly customized. A good clean customizable UI goes a LONG way to help people out!

I use to keep names off all the time in 11 cause could never hide your name and unlike 14, targeting mobs would show if it's claimed or not. Least they have a seperate UI team working on things like this atm Huge improvements needed like most other parts of the game unfortunately xD

I can see why gifthorse isn't too happy about the LS icons. They're repetitive and only provide situational information. It's not dire that I need to know everyone's LS. At one point I can see myself in a full LS party thinking "Ok, I get it, they're all in the same LS." The icon starts to lose its appeal because it's useless.

Something I like about other MMO's is that they tend to make "LS"/guild/team icons a part of the character itself through clothing. It's unobtrusive, retains meaning, and makes the character a bit different.

Just a side note, I personally don't think it's something to put at the top of the priority list but I do believe it's an issue for the UI team.

This is one of my largest pet peeves along side having to see everyone's damage and healing.

It frustrates me that SE Doesn't care to give me the options.
It makes me sick that players are arguing against it.

It blows my mind that people would even mention that UI options could be confusing.
To whom exactly? yes/no: Character name. Yes/no: Friendly PC unit names. Yes/no: Enemy NPC unit names. Yes/no: Friendly NPC unit names.

Even if you couldn't read, at all, 30 seconds of testing would let any player adjust the game to their liking.

To anyone that says "just turn off names, silly!" It doesn't work that way. NPC names are important in game information to me and player names are not. Unneeded information on my screen has to go. It is that simple.

I swear. the community has gotten to the point that people are bashing each others suggestions just for the sake of it. People go on constantly about what exactly a next gen MMO is all about. If SE can't even provide last gens basic features then whats the point?

some more detailed option (please not commands only) would never hurt.
There could be a whole page in the option menu dedicated to UI customization.

Personally i think that the font of the names is too large. Just compare it to the average OS system font size or the font size in this thread, we all can read it just fine and this is a lot of text here compared to the couple names on screen.

I can read this just fine:

Character Name or Character Name

I do not need it to be:

Character Name

Also the Linkshell, repair and bazaar icons could be a bit smaller.

Commat hit some great points. Everyone's damage and healing is in the way. This makes it harder to evaluate ourselves. If we can't better ourselves how can we be better to others? The game is all about teamwork after all. O:

Yep arguing AGAINST extra customization is blatantly retarded and pathetic, sorry if any of you feel the need to take that personally but it's the truth. Adding extra options and customizations doesn't hurt anyone , not even the FF 14 dev team in relation to other parts of the game cause they have their own teams! If you honestly find anything like customization too confusing then ... don't use it!!! There's a reason people want these BASIC thing's added, cause they are just that! If they don't fix some of this stuff by the time the first big battle patch rolls around, which isn't far out now, it's going to have a significant impact like it or not xD

You guys know its npt that simple you need to program in all toggles and make sure they all work. No game ever created had an "limitless" amount of UI customization. Though I don't know the size of the ps2 hdd, my ps3 had 120 gb hdd, my 360 has the 120 also. And ffxi take up a good portion of that. And ffxi don't have that much UI customization. And you have to think of the ps3 when you make this type of suggestion since it will effect the ps3 also. I don't care either way if it gets added but think about it first instead of being selfish. Try to make suggestions that effect everyone not want it because you want it.

Not trying to be rude, but please think about it a bit more to who this suggestion effects. And like I said they are going to have to make a / command list for newbies to learn them all. with all the toggle options being / commands or even toggles on a menue it will be a huge list. Would you want to be the one to write out every / command and what it does?

It's not like a toggle requires and entire reform of the UI (which the game needs, btw, but thats another issue). I bet it would be like 1KB of code or something.

I just don't get why you insist on being so crazy. You call me selfish but I think it's plain to see from this thread that I am not alone in wanting these options.

name a game with near limitless UI options you guys are talking about.
And i'm not saying anything bad about it. Nor saying it shouldn't be added. What I am saying is think about it and who this effects. Its not as basic as you think. And such options effect more ppl then you think.

and that 1kb adds up. if it was 1kb for all of them i would be surprised. the command itself take up a bit of data plus if ffxiv has a /? << help command then it will need to be put there with help info which takes up more room. I'm niether for nor against this Idea. As long as ffxiv isn't that big from it and takes up 1/2 my ps3 hdd idm.

But one thing i hate about ppl making suggestions is they are making it for themselves w/o thinking how it effects people. There is alot more work to it then just simple coding in the option. You need to code it in, test it, put in the help info in game, then end up making a long list of every commend and sub command the game has to put on the newbie tutorial on the lodestone.

Like I ask alot of time name 1 mmo wuth limitless / command for the UI.

with out user made addons.
