At least Tera got it right on first impression. but lack of certain "things" and is not suitable for p2p game anyway. hah!

and if FFXIV is still going with Tanaka, subs will definitely loose and the game gone dead. Good for YoshiP to come to the rescue.
Yoshida is not invincible either though. He can make just as many poor design choices as Tanaka and the old team did. He came to the rescue so to speak with 1.0, but he hasn't proved himself at all with 2.0 yet.

For clarification Tanaka did amazing with XI, but failed XIV. I'm not saying YoshiP will fail (god I hope he doesn't) but people really put him on this pedestal like he's the saving grace of video games, and that he clearly will never make a mistake on XIV.

Just my opinion, but FFXIV has already given us an amazing starting point for an incredible story. We just lived through the end of the world, a world most of us got to know pretty well. How many questions are there that we want to have an answer for.. those answers, of course, are going to come in quest form.
I get the dread of quests for the sake of quests, but if we know that those quests will lead us to see louisiox again, or answer questions about Thancred, Y'shtola, Yda, and Papalymo, I can't see that being horrible.

But then again I'm a bit of a lore-whore, so this could be just me.

I think there are some people out there that desperately want to recapture that "first love" some of us got from playing FFXI, and thats the draw to the group mob-grind.

re-capturing "first love" is the downfall of a person anticipation of a game they deem to try and love. It will fail them again. unless they see it as another thing, a new love instead.

It's all the same thing in the end, just one has more social interaction. (maybe) Play by yourself or with people you meet/existing friends and do quests together (I did this in WoW, although it was spammy since I had done them all before and wasn't going to read the quest text again) or group up with friends/random people and go smash monsters for however much time you can stand, and maybe meet some friends that way. I don't know about anyone else, but most of the things I did with random people in FF14, the party was rather anti-social.

I have to give credits to swtor thou their quest system are much more appealling with their dialogs and all.

Not just text base. Hope ffxiv can deliver a cheaper but effective conveying their quest story. Because ppl just seems to scheme through the quest text more than reading them.

Will edit more since im so tired right now time to sleep

It's just too early to tell and if I learned one thing from Alpha, it was that I could do a bunch of quests and level up, or I could hop in a party and run a dungeon, meet new people, get gear, and level at the same time. The questing to 50 option is simply there for convenience. If you want to do that, then the option is there but you're not limited to only that.

Problem I think a lot of other MMO's have is that there's a huge lack in people who want to do party oriented content. Maybe because they don't know anyone, or too lazy.. I don't know what it is but it makes it harder on people who DO want to do party related stuff if there isn't anyone else looking to group up. That's why it's good to join a guild with people who want the same experience you do, and if you reach endgame then you have no choice but to partake in parties to get the good endgame gear.

The great thing is the FFXIV community is driven by much of the same community who played in FFXI and we are party oriented people. New, or returning, players will have that to come back to along with a game that isn't unfinished or lacking content which drove people away during 1.0. It's also great thing that they're forced into creating endgame content for people who have all jobs maxed out at 50 so new players have that to look forward to also.

Most of the great new things they're telling us about are all party related. Crystal Tower, NM battles.. etc.. I haven't heard much of anything for solo play other than questing to 50 is a possibility. Which is awesome if you want to B line it to 50 and do all the cool stuff I previously mentioned.

For all of those who didn't make it into Alpha.. I had more fun and met more people in Alpha and did more partying than I ever did in 1.0. I also met some really cool people who I added on FB and we still talk daily. I hope that's a bit of good encouragement to those who are in doubt.

Simply put people will do more than one thing if they have the options. Anyway to me at the end of the day either it be grinding or questing your still just raping monsters mindlessly for exp.

It could be a little hit or miss, with some people half AFK'ing and watching TV, Netflix, web surfing or what have you.

But through doing behests with random members, I also met people who remained friends until the very end.

Sometimes it just takes a little time, like running into the same person a few times before the door to friendship creaks open.

Sadly (and not saying anyone here does this), some people I met had the idea that being "social" meant cracking cynical jokes, vocalizing their opinion in party chat on how the game was so bad, or shouting at people for making what they perceived as mistakes. Who wants to be around a downer?
