We already know and have confirmation that the release is most definitely no where near March. July is most likely.

In fact, the new roadmap puts a release at no earlier than Easter if everything runs to the shortest time frame (it probably won't) and no later than mid-June if time allowances are fully used and they don't have something go so badly wrong that they need to breach the roadmap.
Placeholder? Yes.
Not checking roadmap? Unlikely.
March 26 represents the weekend just before release if SE goes by the minimum time frame. This allows tyhe company to plan for ordering and stock. Better to set yourself up to deal with delays than to find yourself on the back foot if the game is suddenly being released earlier.
A March date is still wishful thinking, of course.
Newegg has same date as well:

The roadmap says you need to purchase ps3 version to play in beta phase 4.
"* Those wishing to play on PlayStation®3 are required to purchase a copy of the game for
that system."
Could it be that it will be released early with beta code so you can play in open beta?
Edit: Boo, I now think someone confused FFXIV release date with FFXI expansion release date.

Unlike Amazon what the page says the game will be released on March 26, 2013 so they just want to ninja your money. :P
Amazon.ca is like $20 cheaper. My Canadian money isn't that much better than USD.![]()
Oh, I think I know the problem... These sites probably confused FFXIV release date with FFXI expansion.
