I beg to differ since the game was based on ff14 it should have some means of going back to anima...Lots of wasted effort in this thread that could be put toward other ideas. Anima will not be making a departure simply because Yoshi P sees a thread with 6 pages with some saying it should, not to mention the game itself is probably completed on an engine level, and that would require reworking lots of things. Even if you're for or against it, at this stage its pretty pointless.
Anima was needed in 1.0 because the world was seamless. With ARR being Zones, theirs room for other Transportations. Anima in 1.0 was really the only thing people did. Airships barely had a purpose and even more-so than Ferries. It was there, people "could" use it, but with Anima in place was there ever a reason to use Ferries/Airships? Anima itself is fine, but when it interferes with the other ways to get around the world, then it becomes an issue of " Why in the world is this even in the game, if no one uses it?".
That's why I feel, it should be abolished, but no Teleportation. I want there to be Teleportation in a tad more restrictive way, so the other ways to get around the world won't get completely shut out, like they were in 1.0.
You might as well stop that hub players vs world players BS. People already get a sense of scale already, you cannot teleport to a place you haven't been to unless you beg someone to teleport you.Like I said its really hub players vs world players. Both have a right to their idea of which is more fun. But those two ideas are really not capable of cohabitation. Hub games require disjoint snappy events. While World games require a sense of scale which sometimes unfortunately requires a sense of travel. Even the air mounts in WoW though still required travel time - unlike teleporting.
I like exploring the world, I just don't liked doing the same things over and over again. It's much better to give people incentives to explore the world rather then forcing them to.
If SE adds events on an airship or boat people who want the experience the event or get rewards will take the air ship or boat. You don't need to force them like FFXI.

:P
I wont stop though. Its a bit like defining economies, the US isnt a -true- capitalistic economy but we say it is anyways.
Yes its true you have to walk the first time and even the second time you teleport but your technically not at the front door of whatever content. Demon souls is literally a hub game I believe the new PSO is too but I didnt care to try and play it either just skimmed an article on it.
The players who want to get to their location instantly I will refer to as hub players, perhaps you could say its even worse when the hub is yourself (the player is the hub, its not like you have to go to town).
So.. no its still people who prefer the snappy (and to some) jerky movements of hub gameplay, and those who prefer the longer more 'surreal real'* World play. And dont think I always enjoy traveling, sometimes I think "damn this is taking a long time" but if i removed every obstacle.. well I dont like it.
* Fantasy realism: a hilarious topic because its really easy for people unhappy with the subject to slippery slope everything. Only worth talking about to those who actually care about hitting the effect that it makes.
dont need 24/7 teleport. kills the purpose of having a mount, airship, boat, and whatever else.
leves look like they still tele you back.
While I agree with most of what you say, by far anima was the not the most used means of transportation (unless you did alot of 50k hamlet runs)... It was mounts between nearby cities and when you had no anima, and airships when you just have to change cities... After I first realized how valuable anima was (when I was too low level for hamlet), I really only used it for very far areas like coerthas or mor thoma (but now they are free) or when I was in a party and we all needed to go to a city. I mostly just return to get to my inn if I needed to switch cities or a home point close to my destination...Anima was needed in 1.0 because the world was seamless. With ARR being Zones, theirs room for other Transportations. Anima in 1.0 was really the only thing people did. Airships barely had a purpose and even more-so than Ferries. Glad they are taking a step forward, very important to be able to tele everywhere with FATE system.
I'm sure and confident that it will be some sort of a gil sink for Teleportation.
Yeah but even with the fate system it is not like there aren't any respawns and I've been in fate battles that lasted over an hour, plenty of time to return to an inn and take the air ship to the city where the fate is...
The reason I don;t like gil payed teleportation is because I don't want to pay for it... since anima was its own separate currency that could only be used for teleport and I could earn it through hamlet or let it regen, I wasn't so unhappy spending it... but with gil I'll be spending millions of gil on melding and buying housing I don't want to bring it to me slightly farther from that by making me spend gil on every teleport...

Player
FATE doesnt only happen at cities, some will take place somewhere deep like middle of mor dhona especially the high end FATEs. Some high end FATe will probably have like 2-3hr respawns and ssome people will miss it if they dont have anima.
