Welcome to The Locker!!
I think it would be cool if the mob reacted to a certain percentage of its hp being taken in one hit. Give a little nod to the big dogs and blms when getting crits or setting up a sweet skill chain.
I finally remember what the music style this new game kept reminding me of. Final Fantasy Tactics.
Looks great, and the music is wonderful!
then every game of all time is a spamfest by your definition. I don't know any RPG, MMORPG or action game where you DON'T use the same actions many times. They could make 500 actions for every class, people would still gravitate towards a select set of them becauseAll (most) MMO's are spam You know why? because every MMO I play, I used the same moves and spam them 121231123444322123, From WoW, to Aion, to Rift to Linage.... All the same.. even FFXIV and soon to be FFXIV: ARR. Spam doesn't really mean how fast you do it.. Spam is how many time you do the same thing.
1) if you really did use all 500 of those skills on a regular basis, the knowledge and skill level required to fully utilize all of them would be so daunting that few would bother and settle for a less optimal approach
2)not all of those skills are going to be useful for every fight, event or situation.
People on these boards are too damn quick to oversimplify things. people basically say "oh, its dumb, it's just 11112351348412311223123! spam fest!"- generally what skills you use when is important, where you're standing is important, your status is important... etc. It's not just about what buttons you press. If you wanted, you could oversimplify any game to "you just press buttons!" But if you say that as a reason some game is bad, then you must hate all video games, because guess what... for ALL video games, you "just press buttons!"
This is how fights against Malboros looked after release for comparison. You have to jump a bit into the video to see them but they are there, or you could watch it all and enjoy the nostalgia like me!The twitchiness is only there, I think, because at present the actual hit animation isn't complete, and they had to do something to give the player visual feedback that the monster was hit.
Like this. I'm sure the animations will be appropriate upon release.
VIDEO
to be little more fair... you don't spam skills that long in regular pt grind. the mobs 3-5lv above your level usually die even before you can use 3rd WS in exp pt.
These are special case/illusion they made for Video... these turtles next to camp are not lv20...more like another 1.5X

I'm liking this, and it can only get better in the beta.
The enemy too fast. Sword doesnt even seem heavy. Hit animation on mobs is way to much.
My only complaint has already been mentioned.
The way the monsters flinch on every hit is strange, especially when they're the size of an Adamantoise. Maybe only make them flinch on certain Weapon skills, or critical hits?
