It's not the rewards, it's the system in place. (It's bugged as well.)I've reactivated to shake things up a bit (got tired of losing in League of Legends) ... I guess the thing thats suprising me most right now (after being away from the game for most of the year) is that the latest new thing (Meeble Burrows) isn't really being played, which is a shame because it looked fun (Obviously the reason is the rewards are crap, something they still haven't gotten over)

I'm currently in the process of updating FFXI with a separate account w/14-day free trial just to fiddle with it a tad. Going to have my mind blown tonight seeing Lv 99s running around.

The fellow here has also been giving me feedback about the game, as he is currently playing himself as well. Was surprised to hear that WAR/SAM with G-axe is more a thing now than WAR/NIN DW.
WAR/SAM has always been a good setup. even before the lvl 75 LB.... WAR/NIN is mainly used when theres a chance of heavy damage being taken , as 2 axes isnt standard arms for WAR....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LMl3IuF_is

When I was last around, EXP parties always used WAR/NIN regardless of that. However, when I ever raided, I always had used PLD/WAR, so perhaps that's where I missed the boat on that one.
Yeah your right in EXP partys WAR/NIN is used alot of the time since there is good chance of hate grab from the tank.... 98% of the time in end game ull use PLD/WAR, only on special occations will u use PLD/NIN... nope you missed nothing....

Ive been playing XI on and off again since early spring 2012 after a break from it when XIV came out. Honestly it's changed a lot but for the better. linkshells no longer require your soul and most heavy camped nm/HNM have been turned to popable. Dynamis is soloable and with a few month hard work you can call yourself a relic holder(and do the work solo!). Emperyan relics are actually doable now too. My husband made his almace within a month with two friends of ours and now is working on kannagai. A lot more is solo-able or small groupable and people gather in jeuno to seek events. The nice thing is the game can still be challenging and abysseas actually pretty fun now that im over the original rage of everyone being high leveled.
Ive totally fell in love with beastmater, the new merit weaponskills are reallllyyyy nice some of the gear is like dzzammmnnnn...(and actually good looking now) They made ele stave's a synergy meld that allows you to make them into one staff called a prism staff, you can now delivery box rare/unique gear and seals to mules on your account and there's these noobie/lowbie exp alliances off books that allow people to level low to 99 so its not so hard to do. If you were a cook im telling you jug pets and pet food. thats where the money is^.- or soloing dyna and selling currency... or selling brews. Either way though different from the FFXI i used to know its taken better steps forward, not backwards as I had feared it did.

Ah, but will facing north-by-northeast at 2:45 a.m. while the moon is a waning crescent result in a 27% increase in your chances to synthesize HQ mythril ingots!? That is real the question! ~Fernehalwes~

i'm playing FFXI. I dont know why i left it. I'm having more fun then i had in XIVI'm writing this knowing some people will be "upset" to see FFXI posted in an FFXIV general forum, but I'll get to why it's related (so please spare your anger from this thread; it isn't going to be necessary/desirable for anyone).
SO now that I got that out of the way, a little background on myself that many others will find similar:
My first MMORPG ever was FFXI. Played it for many years all the way up until about midway in-between the time they released Level Sync and the first level cap break past 75 (so while 75 was still the highest LVL). I had been on FFXIV approximately since March of this year till the very last day and am HIGHLY (as most of you are) anticipating FFXIV 2.0.
Lately I've been trying different MMOs (Tera in particular) but it seems to not really be doing it for me. I've played WoW before inbetween FFXI and FFXIV but I have no interest of going back to that either.
From what I heard of FFXI for quite some time is that the leveling had become easy-mode and that certain jobs like Paladin lost their purpose.
Is there anyone else considering/already in the process of playing FFXI currently, and if so, would you recommend a come-back prior to FFXIV 2.0's release? Is there anything that someone that stopped playing during LV 75 cap/Level Sync release time should be aware of such as myself?
Thank you for all of your input, and have a happy holiday season.. 2.0 will probably prove to be the same with its new game play.

I've been having the itch to jump back into FFXI but my time is so limited. It seems I did quit the same time as the OP. Since we don't know exactly when 2.0 is coming, I've been replaying some other FF titles to refresh my old memory. Started with 7 and plan to keep going until it does come out.
As far as I'm concerned, FFXI is too expensive for what it is in the MMO market of today. Even if I have fond memories of FFXI, there is no way I'm going back on it unless it goes Free-to-Play. FFXI is more costly than what FFXIV will cost me (Legacy)... I'll try SWTOR, GW2, Tera, Rift, PSO2, and many more before paying too much per month for an old MMO.
