The problem is that after you've beaten everything in the game... you get bored, and leave.

Thats the real issue right now... hardcore or casual.... if you can clear the content fast, you won't pay for a Sub, and you won't stick around.... The way the game CURRENTLY is.. is 'easy mode'... you either grind.. or you spam 1 1 1 1 1 1....

    What it will become? well....

Spending 3-6 months to design and release content that'll only last a day to a week is BAD DESIGN. In FFXI all your content lasted YEARS, which was great! It kept people playing and paying for their subs! More $$. What are the players supposed to do after they beat this content in 1-7 days that took 3-6 months to release? Nothing, they'll cancel their subs and quit, or become very bored and eventually quit. FFXI lasted 8 years because it's niche in the MMO market was hardcore/hard, pretty much no other MMO in the market at the time fit in that niche, allowing the game to grow and stay alive for years. To this day, the same can be said, except FFXI no longer fills that niche, no game does. FFXIV should follow and become the hardcore/hard game that FFXI once was.

Why you ask? The reason is simple, casual gamers may make up the majority, but they won't stick around forever, they'll get bored after a few months, and move onto better casual games such as Rift or WOW. These games are much better for casual gamers, and more people play them allowing them to play with irl friends/family/etc more easily. Hardcore players on the other hand, they'll stick around forever. Most of the hardcore players(pretty much all) stayed around in FFXI for YEARS, 5-8 years, an insane amount of time, because the game was perfect for them, and they still had things they wanted, things they needed to get done, level, drops, etc. The game took time and dedication, so even the most hardcore had to play it for 5+ years to get everything they wanted.

Please, I beg of you, do not turn this game into a casual western-MMO like every other MMO on the market, we have far too many of them already, why not try to fit the niche of hardcore/hard and take those players, instead of trying to steal players from other games(and fail doing so)? There is currently ZERO mmos that are hardcore/hard on the market ATM, this would be a very wise decision, and if you read the forums you'll see many FFXI veterans complaining about the direction this game is going.
I like the way XIV is going. I hope it never becomes like XI or any past hardcore MMO. I know there are others who say the same as me. We have lives. I don't want to spend years trying to clear one mission yes I'm talking about promys in XI. Unless you find a group of friends to do missions with your srewed if you don't have the ideal job.

Games are to part of life not a life. I find nothing wrong with a challenge but all you hardcores seem to be saying: screw everyone but us. a game can provide a challenge and be casual.

What main player base? The ~30k players that are still active and not paying a single dime for this game?

Wasn't it stated long before launch that FFXIV was not catering to the "hardcore" crowd of FFXI? I'm pretty sure it was, stop hoping for things that were never stated and when in fact the exact opposite was stated. Their target audience was not the "hardcore" players from FFXI, it was the slightly more "casual" crowd more so in relation to the amount of time spent gaming per day.

FFXIV is not and should never become the hardcore game FFXI once was. If you don't like it go find a game you do like. Cut your losses now, it's not getting any more "hardcore" from here.

Well see, when I beat everything in a game, I make a new character and start over.

Just to be clear, I'm not asking for "casual" or "hardcore" game. I just want a fun one.

Labeling people just builds stereotypes that tend not to be true.

Back in the old ffxi done this and be that level mattered. In fact almost in every game what you have done or acquiring gives you some kind of status because you did this or that.In other words, noobs are nice, they ask questions to the people who have played more and say thanks for the help.noobs used to admire those who had done much more in game.
In ffxiv everyone is a critic, even people who dont even play ,noobs who dont play think they know better than people with 4 50 and call them "no life".

In before someone says "noobs " a bad word, is not . I like noobs , i wish i was always a noob discovering new thins.Im using the word in the right way and not the offensive way.

kinda off topic but its what bothers me about this forums and the community in ffxiv in general.Everyone think they are pros and toss the casual vs hardcore line.Bunch of garbage if you ask me.

personally i have no problem with the midrange/casual content beingreleased. my problem was that everything added was for that group. if they would have added some hardcore content along with the casual content i believe most people would have been fine. instead they made already easy nm's easier and added more easy content.

i feel alot of the hardcore vs casual arguments are coming out because one group or the other feels left out because nothing is being added for that group. i do understand the casuals need more stuff and am glad to see they got it, but the hardcores need stuff also. this is the reason i would love to see tanaka back. let tanaka work on the hardcore stuff and yoshi work on the casual stuff since he doesn't seem to have a clue about the hardcores wants or needs at all.

What, they are losing players cause they're not tickling them in a place that makes them feel special? While they try to get back 600,000 PEOPLE that already quit the game? What kind of players were those? Get stuffed.
