I left because it wasn't a smart use of my time and there wasn't enough content to make the experience enjoyable.

However, if you do put in strong enough systems, you can prevent leveling from being a "rush to the end". I'd like an experience leveling too, but it has to be so much more than what I described above.
I can agree with this. Since my first job to 75 was DRG, much of my time was often spent LFG or making my own pt. The rush to the end style shouldn't be negated by an inability to get anything done.

That said I usually spent my LFG time doing quests I hadn't completed yet, farming, crafting, etc. I personally felt there was always something to do. However I know that many people don't enjoy some of those tedious tasks such as crafting and farming.

I'm hoping there will be meaningful content along side leveling up, and that leveling will be a process that doesn't feel so much like a grind (though that's a near impossible goal to achieve probably.)

Speaking of FFXI reminds me that I never heard anyone say they were bored while playing it. They may have been frustrated, pissed or busy, but never outright bored (this was before Abyssea and all it wrought).

But with FFXIV, it was different. Everyday some people would only log on to ask if others needed help and if no one did, they would log off. It's pretty bad when you have maxed jobs and crafts within 2 years of release, have done all of the quests and now sit around begging for something to do. SE should really avoid this mistake with ARR and look to FFXI for tips on keeping a player playing.

    Sounds so fun! >___>

I always wanted FFXIV to be like Hello Kitty Online.

When I first played FFXI it took me a year to reach level 75, and I was more than OK with that.

It's very true that the experience of FFXI, especially in the early days, was much more in the leveling and travelling experience as it was in the endgame. When HNM timers were down people would go level other jobs for fun/leisure.

One of the only things I would have argued to change in FFXIV is the leveling speed, and I think it's incredibly disappointing that the majority of people said the speed was 'just about right' in the players' poll.

Hardcore vs casual gaming is about how seriously you take video games. The guy in the video has no idea what he's talking about.
Hardcore gamers take gaming seriously and casual gamers are simply those who don't take gaming seriously. The rest like time spent and skill are simply grey area. Not much else to it.

How are some people agreeing with a thread that includes ideas like 10 year old girls with the best gear available? How?

    *shoots self*

Praise Allah none of you are devs. I don't mind casual people having options but just saying"hey lets just make it really easy for people to get the best gear in the game" my god..

There's no set definition for a hardcore and casual gamer. Everyone has their own perception.
The guy prefaces his video with "this is what I mean when I use the terms hardcore and casual in previous and future videos"
To say he doesn't know what he's talking about just means you're being condescending to try and look smart.

You're own point of view on what casual and hardcore is fine, as I said everyone has their own perception. But having your own opinion doesn't make everyone else wrong.
