Hmm, to be honest I wouldn't want them to "save" him at all. Take a moment to ponder on the look of content on his face moments before the flare hits. Does that look like the face of a man who is meeting an untimely end? Doesn't it look more like the face of a man who has done all that he set out to do, even if the best he could accomplish was to teleport us through the slip of time?
When I see the finality of those last few seconds of the trailer, I see the face of a man who, even though facing death, has no regret. A man happy with the outcome after achieving a small victory in the face of impossible odds. Someone who would be best remembered rather than saved for the efforts he made and the gift of survival he imparted to those he saved.
