No, no , no & yes (positively -- as I role-play my character).

Sexy gear doesn't mean objectification -- it's in people's head that it happens. I enjoy all the pieces of gear, sexy or not, without objectifying things (beside the fact we are talking about digital characters). I think it's great to have sexy gear, emotes and such -- it shows some realism and people were already walking around in underwear anyway.

Stereotypes can't be circumvented easily, it is a video game and as such cannot express the unlimited diversity of the real world.

So, no, I'm not concern by sexism in FFXIV. Regardless of the gear available, the emotes and the character models, sexism will happen anyway. For proof, just look at today's world and go back in history as far as you can. Bam! Sexism, racism, etc.

LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.

Sexism has existed since the begining of mankind, perhaps even before.

Yup. Exactly my point. It's in my people's head, not clothes (regardless of the medium).
So, I do expect more sexy things in the future -- for diversity of choice and to respect everyone's choice.

I wasn't overly concerned until just recently with the live letter.

    ...breast physics? Ugh.

I've seen it done tastefully in games but not often, Final Fantasy as a series has usually been fairly tame with going overboard on sex appeal they have had said breast physics in a few games and never really seem to have gone too crazy with it the only time I ever even really noticed it was in Dissidea Duodecim and it's pretty hard to notice aside from one instance.

Thankfully a large portion of the issue (The skimpy gear) can be dealt with because they are introducing vanity slots so you can cover up the girls if they are threatening to escape. As a male I can't say I fully understand the problem because I never will but I feel I have a good grasp on the subject. If you ask me aside from the coatee snafu (Even this is arguable to a extent) they generally keep the concept and level of "Revealing" material the same on most gear sets.

It could be far worse, far, far, far worse.

So givin that they have yet to do this to us, I'll give them the benifit of the doubt and pray we don't have breasts flying everywhere whenever a female character decides to as much as twitch.

Sexy doesnt have to be nearly naked though. More sexy, less naked armors? Sure lol - armor"ed" and naked together just hurts my head XD.

@Jynx with his fancy image lol :P
I hate Terra's armors >.> - I didnt even try to play the game because of that reason alone.

Nice to meet you. I am Nique and am female IRL.

I am sorry that you have had a bad experience in game.
But you are allowing that experience to cloud your perception. Just because something happened to you does not mean it will happen to others.

Not once in FFXIV have I felt objectified. There was only one incident where I found that my gender influenced what happened and that was actually not negative, just a person hitting on me, nicely.

I like the clothing, I like that in December when it is snowing I look all snuggly warm in my Whm AF... but equally I like to wear much less in the seemingly hotter seasons, or if I take SS's at the Eorzean beach. I like that my character is attractive, it makes her fun to draw. I do wish I had an option to make her hips wider ... but oh well. I do not like the swimwear because the design of the top is ugly to me lol.

I use ventrillo for mostly everything, so I am known on my server to be IRL female (Not a manqo'te lol) and frankly the other few females I have played with can take care of themselves, they have never once said to me 'I hate telling people I am a girl' or 'I don't like playing Mi'qo'te because of sexism' and we are all Miqo'te bar one female hyur.

Without knowing your own experiences I can not comment too much, but is it possible you are taking it to heart and being more vulnerable then you have to?

I have encountered huge huge jerks in game... but you know what? They are a jerk to everyone. And even then, I talk to a few people who have a reputation of being a jerk (with good reason) but they are quite pleasant one on one ^^... maybe because I personally didn't fall into the trap of flaming them immediately because of their rep... I sought to spek to them as any other person and surprise! They did not aggro me at all ^^

There is one thing I have noticed, now that I think harder on the topic.
A few members of my LS do not seem to be able to get past the fact that for the females (albeit few of us) in the group... the want for bust sizes is not about sexuality.

Things like 'OMG you just want big boobs and your Miqo'te will be top heavy' ... or my personal pet hate, saying that 'then males should get a crotch size option'.

Foolish... The option is chest, if anything males should also have chest (which is better said as build I suppose) Chest does not equal crotch no matter how much you want to push your idea that they are equal to one another.

For me, and the few other FFXIV girls I have spoken to; the chest size is just like a hair option... It is an OPTION. I personally want a well endowed character because I am of similar build IRL.

I know a girl who wants a more small - medium chest because she feels that as an adventurer she would have that body type (which is an immersion based decision vs. my personal decision)

As for the answered question on breast physics; I was surprised not that they chose it to ask, but that they answered it with a (I assume humorous) onomatopoeia... BUT I also know they use a LOT of onomatopoeias in Japanese culture, so for westerners I can understand how saying 'boing boing' could be taken the wrong way.

In the end I thought it was funny... because let's face it, anything that goes boing is there for fun.

What I got most from that question, is that I was happy that physics will play an important part in our characters still (this stems from the concern of animations such as the pivot or start and stop of our characters seeming to be absent)

So, do I feel the game is being sexist? No. Why? Because it is a fantasy world above all. But this will never stop the real worlds stereotypes nor their ignorance nor other real world trends influencing our world. People need to lighten up and ENJOY and respect others enjoyment.

For you, I would suggest trying to take things with a grain of salt, if you feel your issue is more pressing or serious I will happily talk to you about them ^_^

    ok finished editing now lol

Lol this thread has some racist undertones supposedly fighting sexism IN A VIDEO GAME. And whats that comment about actual women being objectified based on your avatar? What a fucking joke

I have a female character, 50 culinarian. Soon I'll be able to build a house, probably with a kitchen.
I'm going to unequip my boots and make sandwiches in that kitchen.
All is as it should be.
