I dislike the XIV dances, but I despise pop culture dances in other games even more.
What we all really need is some VAN DAMMAGE

I can respect your opinion for what you would like as far as dances go. However, the fact that Eorzea is a high fantasy setting; any popular culture dances (visual references) from our world just doesn't make sense, and IF implemented would really take away from the game's continuity. I think as far as SE goes, they'll only be including some humor that we can catch with modern referencing.
Much else added would degrade the game in my humble opinion.
I would like to see /dance emotes that actually loop like in other MMOs (and with more variety etc), but preferably dances that accenuate each race's culture, and not dances that are ripped straight from pop culture without respect being given to each race. Pop culture dances can be fun to see in MMOs, but consideration also has to be given to the other aspects of the game.
(No to Gangnam Style - if people keep hyping it all the time like this it's just going to become old even faster.)
Please, don't resort to pathetic pop culture dances. Instead, create new dances fitting the theme and style of Final Fantasy.
Please no.
Vana'diel, the world of FFXI (for the 3 people in here who may not know that lol), felt like a unique and believable world because for the most part, "real life" was kept out of it. SE took the world seriously and did everything they could to make "visiting" there feel like stepping foot into a truly unique alien world.
The pop culture references already in FFXIV 1.0 seem out of place and kind of forced (to me). The reason they seem to work in other MMOs (WoW most notably) is that Blizzard (and other devs) gave up any illusion of that game world being internally consistent or immersive. The game basically became one big "nod and wink" to pop culture and, hence, lost any sense of having its own unique identity.
I would much rather see SE create dances for FFXIV that reflect the culture and history of each race, giving them more depth and identity. Or, as in the case of the Dancer job, dances that reflect that specific job's history, etc.
Using real-world dances instead would not only strip the races of any such identity, it would cheapen the "alternate reality" feeling of Eorzea.
Let the cutesy "games" like WoW and others drown themselves in pop culture references. Let Eorzea and the overall world of FFXIV maintain the integrity of being its own reality with its own cultures and references.

You all take this game WAY too seriously.
Pop-culture dances (and references in general) are as necessary for "having fun" as emotes are for role-playing.
In both cases, they're not.
