I hear that. I'd rather be playing but I'm at work so looks like I'm just bantering. As close as I can get to the game right now haha
my biggest issue is not the amount of information we have been given. it's the way we have been given the information and how it has been handled since. we've gotten alot of info from interviews, dev responses on the jp side(thanks rein), lodestone information, and game events. the problem is the info overlaps alot so most of the information we've heard many times and each time they release one or 2 new things.
let's take a look at trying to talk to someone that's already quit the game and tell them about all the new stuff. this is pretty much a convo with a real life friend of mine that's already played the game and quit right after darkhold was put in.
me "hey vg did you hear about all the new stuff in xiv coming in 2.0"
vg "nah that game is still running?"
me "yeah, they are adding alot of new stuff and it should be up early next year"
vg " oh nice is there a site about the update?"
me "yeah" i give him the arr site and lodestone links
vg "well there's not much there. where have you heard all the information?"
me "yoshi and the staff have done alot of interviews, lodestone updates, magazine articles, arr updates, and live letters"
vg "that's too much looking for me so not interested"
this is someone that's already played the game and was interested to get the new info, but they were not willing to go on a treasure hunt to find all the info given. if se wants to get old players back and grab the attention of the new players they really need to condense all the info down to the arr site so when you direct someone to all the new changes and game additions they have a one stop place to see all the info we have been given.
like i said we have gotten a bunch of information, but it is so spread out that you aren't going to get people interested besides the few of us that have been here from day 1 to go searching to put all the info together themselves. if it was a first time release game people are more likely to go looking for new information, but not as likely a game that's still considered to be a failure. xiv: arr is in a situation where, unlike other games, they have to not build interest in the game, but rebuild it because it was such a let down to start with. they are going to have to put in more effort and make things easier than most games due to that fact.
i believe the arr site was a great idea, but i think they are failing miserably at keeping it updated to get all arr info there.

And that is exactly the problem. New players and your friend is exactly the players SE is trying to capture and they simply cant going the current path. While it pleases the ones who will take everything they can get, it will not please people who gave up on the game or wanting to get into the game.
You may see positive comments about ARR, but when they go to look into it in detail, this is why the positive feedback suddenly becomes negative or "SE being SE yet again.."
well like my friend here was his list of issues he had that made him quitAnd that is exactly the problem. New players and your friend is exactly the players SE is trying to capture and they simply cant going the current path. While it pleases the ones who will take everything they can get, it will not please people who gave up on the game or wanting to get into the game.

1. he felt after the battle changes battle became too slow.
2. they are fps players so he's really looking towards information on pvp.
3. he pure hated grid map design.
4. he's one of the he wants to explore areas and not feel rushed to complete for rewards like darkhold(his final straw)
we both know all of those issues have been addressed at one point or time since all the information has been coming out, but there is not that ONE place that has all the information to send him to so he can read up on it. he's just not going to read through 10-15 interviews to find a piece on one thing and then watch 3 live letters to find a piece on something else.
if they put everything on one site he could go on and be completely blown away by the mass amount of info released so far even though it's all stuff we already know. he knows nothing about arr more than the few things i've been able to tell him.

Just want to add my opinion - I agree with the OP totally, everyone bitching about the lack of information just needs to get additional hobbies/a life. I'm as excited as the next person about ARR but honestly why all the venom towards SE? Don't you think they've already bent over backwards to accommodate the fact that everyone hated the game when it first came out? You know, as opposed to just abandoning it and leaving it crap, which they could have easily done.
We've had a lot of info - don't you people want any surprises when the game comes out?
Not one single person here NEEDS to know when this GAME comes back online. I'll just be happy when it does.
@OP. Great post, your argument is sound and some of the folks should heed your advice. For the people who doesn't seen the flood of information that poured out world wide is just blind because they didn't get information that they personally wanted to hear about. A tidal wave of information came out but people just don't accept it because all of the information isn't new or current to them.
So lock the OP's thread for stating his opinion just the same as the other guy did? You sir are the waste of space.
To all those people who filled the Tales From Eorzea thread with rude comments, you make me sick. Seriously, you'll get the info when you get it. SE is obviously holding back info until they're closer to launch so that the new and exciting info doesn't go stale in the time between then and now.
Go find a hobby and stop being such entitled little pricks.
Relax and take in this theme ( that somehow makes me cry everytime) :P

This Prelude from FFXIV 2.0 gives me faith that everything will be alright, Believe...Feel..... Think...
