But, looking at the UI, the look and feel doesn't quite make me believe it really fits the game setting. Maybe it could just be me of course which is why I want to know what others think.
fits the game setting? How much did the UIs of other recent final fantasy titles "fit the game setting?"

What does it matter what it looks like as long as it's functionally effective?

    On UI:
The image posted by Mihana looks all nice and pretty, but on all the FFs I've played, the menu has been a side-based vertical layout. Oh, I'll probably get used to the pictured HUD by the time there's a side-menu add-on release that looks cool too. It's just a style I've liked from previous games, the side-set vertical menu.

    On FPS MP:
Doom, Dec 10 1993(date according to Wiki). Proper citation needed, but I remember back on original PC it did have multiplayer...

The new UI looks amazing, and whoever thinks it doesn't obviously hasn't played our current FFXIV 1.x.

Hey Mihana.. I'm in hospital, did Mnim tell you? Stupid tummy.. still it looks like I've dodged needing surgery and I'll be out come Friday I hope >.>

    Anyway!

I.. well, I've been thinking the same. The new UI definitely does look really nice but you're definitely right suggesting it'd look more at home in something with a bit more of a sci-fi bent, like Phantasy Star or Ar Tonelico. I'm going to miss the current aesthetic I think.. it's got just the right balance of rustic and Final Fantasy simplicity. I'm definitely looking forward to some nice re-skins. Maybe something like the old, classic Ragnarok Online skin, too. Sure it's not very appropriate either but hey, nostalgia, and I once managed to rearrange the v1.x UI to be functionally really similar.

Still, my three big, current concerns?
    - Being able to use the customisation provision to mod out those stupid float-y exclamation marks
    - Viability of the 'PS3 UI' for us PC gamepad users (that XMB-style interface does look fun)
    - Being able to have the action bar disappear when I'm not in combat, as it does now

'Hope I didn't completely miss the point.. these anti-inflammatory drugs they've got me on are making me pretty woozy.

First before I start, this isn't a petition, request, or complaint trying to make them redesign the UI. From what I know of we're supposed to have the ability to reskin and change aspects of the UI via user-created plugins at a later date. Also the UI despite what I'm going to say is absolutely beautiful in my opinion. It looks clean, simple, and not the least bulky compared to the current user interface we have now. So kudos to the team for streamlining it.

But, looking at the UI, the look and feel doesn't quite make me believe it really fits the game setting. Maybe it could just be me of course which is why I want to know what others think. Do you like the new UI? Do you feel it fits with the overall theme of FFXIV? Personally, again I say personally just to stress that part, no. It feels like something that would belong in a sci-fi type setting. If you've played any of the Star Ocean titles this is the kind of UI I would see used in that type of game. To me the UI has a semblance to a game you'd expect to travel to other worlds on giant space crafts and use advanced technology. Final Fantasy XIV really doesn't fit that setting and viewing the scenery of what appears to be Gridania with a futuristic-styled UI layout seems a little out of place to me.

Like I said, this is not a request to change the UI, not a petition or complaint (Well maybe a tiny one.) about what's to come in ARR. It's pretty, simple, very clean and minimal which should be a staple in many MMO titles out there. But from this standpoint, it just doesn't really feel like the style belongs. Still it won't stop me from playing at all. Please post what you think of the UI. Does it fit? Do you like it? If so, why? If not, how come? Thanks!
must be playing a leaked 2.0 copy of game i guess...

Forra! D: No she didn't tell me. I hope you end up feeling better soon! And you're right, it does have almost a Phantasy Star feel to it. The UI designs/themes/styles are vastly different than what 2.0 will have for us of course. Still the whole look of the UI from what images we've seen do make you think of that. I think it may be what another player was suggesting, it's the contrast, saturation, and everything. What stands out to me is the excessive use of the orange font. Anyway get well!

And to syntaxlies? Was that some attempt at trying to troll? 'Cause it needs work...

Please, i want confirmation about this. I see an incoming "PS3 PLayer No thanks" when ARR launch because of the lack of comunication xD.
