What I think the problem is is most people are thinking "I don't like the information we got, therefore it isn't information at all."
to your so called "unique", new features... im really sick of these. overvalued.. i want to have a core MMO right now. and not a casual replaceable GW2.
Warhammer Online "Public quests" -> fail
Rift "Public Quests" -> fail
Star Wars Online "strict storyline MMO, fully synchronized" -> fail
GW2 "less skills, public quests" -> at least for me fail
Final Fantasy has a great franchise to offer.. if i imagine we will be able to summon primaes like Ifrit, Shiva etc. on PvP Battlefield its just too aussum to describe. chocobos with a gambit system as companions (i dont know any MMO with companions, at least didnt played them), Limit-Break, Crystal Tower its final fantasy fan service at its best .. etc... These things are unique on their own.
what has GW2 to offer? the thousandth replaceable dragon (*woo a dragon*) ? the thousandth replaceable white deer (GW2 storyline)..
i think you cant even compare the gameplay of the current FFXIV with ANY other MMorpg out of there. GW2, Rift, WAR... all do play the same. Final Fantasy Online always had its uniqueness. of course with ARR it goes more into a common direction MMorpg players are used to.
we'll have to wait and see, but i think it could attract many players. comparing ARR with 1.0. the old version was just too awful. i think people had stayed when it has been like ARR in the beginning. of course i did not play it yet... but from what i saw...

Why are people bashing GW2 so much? Its a Good F2P PvP mmo.
Its quite unrealistic to expect a game to be perfect in every aspect.
Seriously you play FFXIV which does almost every thing worse then other mmos besides having pretty character models. Then bash others mmo who do better in other areas.

For the lols? I don't know, never played Guild Wars.
its the matter of taste. and i dislike it. and why people are protecting GW2? because they pumped millions of dollars in publicity to claim that their game has to be good? as i never played WoW really active, too..
i dont like that sort of flat story telling... a guy who tells me somethin' about a white holy deer... oh dear..
its just too flat and "0815" to me ;XD
A Shiva, an Ifrit, chocobo and whatever have much more charism to me than a "deer" who is a main port of a main story, come on... but well its the matter of taste. and the spam fest of spells as a mage class in GW2 does not even make it better to me.

I think people confuse their pain for uniqueness because they cant put another word to why they suffered it. (referring to a lot of early FFXI players). These people aren't getting hurt by GW2 so it doesn't feel right to them :P
Its quite common actually..
For Tonkra, I think as he says its taste. GW2 does have some flat quests. I like a lot of the mechanics they are trying to introduce though.
However in a lot of FFXIV quests I've felt they where over the top. So much so I just skipped dialog because it hurt to read lol

first GW2 is not that unique what everybody (like arenanet's commercials) claim it to be...
because Warhammer Online and Rift had those public quests right before.
and the shity spam battlesystem in GW2 plays like every F2p mmo.
but well.. this should not become a GW2 thread eh?
GW2 has tons of voice acting so its story its already 10x better for me because i am very auditory and i hate reading all that text. Like when i my npc buddy in gw2 talks i feel more connected to them
Then compared to freaking badaran with illegible pirate speaking or that npc who speaks 5 lines for every 1 a normal person would.
I like my npcs to have a voice. Instead of mute and blocks of text. I would really like more voice acting in FFXIV . I really liked that english voice of the thm taru .
Each mmo has its good points and its bad.

That is a preference - you don't like to spam that doesn't mean it is shitty though. I can tell you that the lack of required attention in almost all FFXI fights put my ass to sleep, Bluemage woke me up a little in that I actually got to interact in a frequent manor . . but learning the spells put me back asleep again lol.
GW2 is unique in some of its methodicalness, like WoW it has pushed a lot of features together to make a certain goal. I doubt it will become like WoW, that was an anomaly but I wouldn't discredit it too much even if you dont like it.
