So then don't put something in a vanity slot and turn it on so your darklight will show? I mean obviously if you are wearing it you have it on and I doubt anyone is going to be putting darklight in a vanity slot over a slot that matters statwise at this point.
I'm kind of shocked they are not including this or some variation on it for 2.0. It's pretty much an industry standard at this point.

That's the only way to keep it from looking silly, personally i think they should just make more stylised gear and allow the materials to effect the stats and level needed but let any level (or most then all at cap) wear it.

bit torn on this
On one side I would really like to wear things for how they look rather than stats and better customize my character (instead of having the same WHM robe as everyone else) so something like fashion case would do.
But on the other hand how would all those new pieces be created? Maybe implementing a new job "designer" (or something like that) to create fashion clothe. But then we might end up with many super tacky stuff... I like the SE design. Plus it could be hard to see exactly who is doing what, especially in random group where you don't know people well so you just want to know where is the BLM, the WHM, who is the tank... if everybody has totally un-job-like clothes might get confusing
But it something they should really try in alpha/beta and see how it goes

Why not find a middle point and just call it "town gear" whenever you enter a territory that is non-hostile/has no enemies like a town you automatically change to the gear designated for those areas. However when you zone out into the battlefield/hostile areas you change back into your regular gear. This way in the more "social areas" people can look however they want however when you go out to fight you'll look like your class.

It's hard to be a Red Wizard wearing a blue robe :/I'm happy with their decision, the only thing I don't get is why do it, but since all it does is just change cosmetics of belts onto armor, works out better than throwing in a system where mages run around looking like warriors.
There's a reason they got off the optimal/favors system in favor of required system. Yes people want to look like whatever the hell they want, luckily though there's plenty of MMORPGs out there that does what people want.
Personally I don't see why we can't have it. Why can't it be class/job specific items to vanity slot you want.
Blm/Thm can only wear robes, not heavy armor. T
Maybe I want to look like a regular person as a paladin, but my vanity slot I have cotton tabard (red) with Cotton Kecks (brown). But have triple melded cobalt gear on the main slot.

Ya I think vanity slots is the answer, for those that want to show off awesome gear, they don't need to wear vanity. For those who think o I won't know what job you are, if vanity gear has class restrictions like everything else, there would be no difference except the gear won't look stupid and mismatched and might not look like the highest of hi end gear because it might not be how you want your character to look.
