"Ul'dah can keep their dusty markets, and their streets paved in silver and gold.
Limsa Lominsa keep your pirates, and your ships covered in musty mold.
My loyalty lies with Gridania, with the Moogles and the tree spirits of old." -The Forky Conjurer
Honestly, I will never understand the rage at forced group content in any MMO. The whole multi-player bit?..yeah its in the name of the genre. If you don't require grouping, whether through requiring specific party size or through difficulty, then you end up with no community. I know this because I played SWTOR.
I'm sorry that you're upset about being required to group up for a quest, but you don't get to save the world solo, it takes some help! Shouting in Gridania will likely never get you anywhere. Pop over to Ul'dah (which is the central hub on every server) as others have said and look for people there. I've no doubt you'll find some willing to go with you for just about anything. If you're adamant that you don't want to group up, then frankly, this MMO just isn't for you. You're going to run into the same problem time and time again. There's plenty of solo content, but the more epic content you need a party of 4-8 for.
Best of luck!
Complaining that a lot of content is group focused in a mmo, is like complaining about people attacking you in a PvP game..
Now i love solo content in MMo's i do a lot of it as sometimes i just CBA with people or i want to just get on and not be waiting around. Their is loads of it in XIV now, ok not so much the Main GC stuff, or Dungeon stuff as that is the Group content.
But to save you further frustration:
Solo focus:
Main story, mini quests, Class quests, Crafting, Gathering, Exploration
Group focus:
Dungeons, Grand Company, Behest's, Caravan's, Hamlet's, Job Quests
Mix'd Focus:
Leve's, achivemnts, Gathering rare items
I could expand but that does cover it for the most part.
But I agree with others find a LS that suites you i have done those quests many many times since i completed them, for LS members, Friends of LS members and random people just asking when i have nothing else to do atm.
I had to laugh at this.
This game definitely allows you to play solo! Just don't expect to complete the GC storyline, get more than two pieces of your AF gear, participate in any of the higher level dungeons, or a few handful of other things. Everything else, however, is yours for the taking.
Of course, if you read through the Imperial Devices quest description in your journal, it tells you the requirements for entering Toto-rak. Looking around Gridania for people won't help unless you get damn, damn lucky. Head to Ul'dah and shout for assistance and you'll most likely find a person or two willing to help out. One of them might even need it, too!
Come ARR, hopefully content finder will alleviate this need to shout in Ul'dah if you want to get anything done.
Uh...I may be wrong about this, but you don't have to do Imperial Devices to join a GC. Check the chart. You should do The Mail Must Get Through after Adders' Nest Egg.

You should probably try Final Fantasy 13 or 12 instead of this game
ITT: guy bitches about having to have 2-3 other players help, to complete a quest that should have (and most did) been completed months ago, DURING a new patch, DURING a server stability situation, DURING the last few weeks before arguably the largest single experimental over haul of a global MMO in video game history.
Glad you immediately came to bitch on the forums.
You are an imbecile.
I got no sympathy for yah.
Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game
Sorry to burst your bubble but Totorak isn't even a required grand company quest. You are going to be in for quite a rocky road if you are bitching about needing one other person. There are quests later on that require a full party.
For what it's worth, leveling will be mostly quest based in ARR, so the grinding you're complaining about won't be as present. There's still going to be a lot of group only content though.
