Gear Score, in my ARR?

What is so good and decent about a community where it is better to stick to your tribe than venture out to encounter new people?

Why did you join a LS?
or this one...
Why do you have friends in FFXIV?

Either way, will your friends in that LS ask for your
Gearscore when its time for an LS event?

Somehow i doubt they would, but... PUG shouts in cities
might ask for X amount of Gearscore requirements for joining.

So... wich would you choose?

go with your LS that wont ask for Gearscore or PuG wich asks for it?

What i just wrote above is how things are & will be, full stop.

And whats good about this community?
Thats like asking, why in gods name did SE implement Linkshells.

I would also like to point out that certain (unamed) LS atm only do things with
certain members in this game, never inviting any new ppl to their LS.
(And this almost hurt to say but they been doing pretty damn good on their own, they dont need new ppl)

This is what makes a LS / Company a strong & progressing group of players.
They rely on their friends & knows every move of their fellow party members & they sure the hell dont need Gearscore to filter out "Bad" players just because their GS is low.
(This is where the word "Skill" of playing their Jobs properly comes into play)

I myself...i like player personalities.

And meeting new people?
Are you saying once a player join a LS / Company they cannot meet new ppl?
I meet new ppl when i do caravan runs, PuG shouts events, when im out gathering etc.
I've even invited a few from such events to the LS im in now.

Casuals seem to hate a gear score system, why? Well it seems their argument is that they might not have the best gear, but they have skill which compensates for that.

Here is the thing, and it is pure fact.

In every single MMO endgame, there is what I like to call a "gear check". You will get to a certain boss, dungeon, raid, instance, what have you, and if your gear isn't up to par (double melded, tier 3, insert whatever endgame gear term) then you will not clear the content within the time limit, or at all.

It's numbers and numbers don't lie. Here is an example: If my BLM is well geared, my Thundaga is going to hit for 1600. If one of the BLMs in the group isn't so well geared, his hits for 1200. That is a 400 damage difference, multiple that by however many cast rotations and you can clearly see that my well geared BLM will substantially out damage the other BLM, which is bad because now we might be lacking DPS on the boss, it's going to take us longer to compensate for the damage that BLM #2 isn't putting out, it doesn't matter how much skill the guy has, he is only going to hit so hard.

So do I want a gear score? Absolutely. Should it be your only opinion on who is a good player? Absolutely not, my BLM can hit harder but what if I am a terrible BLM who doesn't have any rotations or never got Chameleon (smh at all of you who still don't have it!). Gear score is a welcomed addition for me.

Like someone else said, people are picky anyways. If anything it'll just make it easy for them to be picky. And I'd rather not play with those kinds of people. I play a game to have fun, not to be yelled at because I didn't step 30 degrees to the left at the right millisecond.

Gear Score is a good thing, imo. Yeah people always go, "Judge be by my skill, not my gear!!!" but lets face it, most people are not super gamers who are going to display incredible skill that overcomes lack of gear. And most MMO's nowadays despite what people may claim are quite gear dependent. And specially in the case of PUGs, you can't expect people to invite based on pure faith that your incredible skills will overcome your lack of optimal gear.

Someone earlier mentioned fighting Ifrit and Garuda with low level/missing accessories and heck, I'm guilty of that too. If there was such a thing as gear score, I would spend the time and effort to get my score to the target level rather than go, "Eh, why bother buying new rings, 1 person missing a couple rings isn't going to bring the whole group down."

If anything I'd much rather them add Player Score instead of Gear Score. Rate people on the content they've beaten not what gear they're wearing.

If I get into the Alpha/Beta this will be one of the issues I'll be extremly critical on. Gearscore enforces trivialized gear sets instead of letting people be creative with the stats they want to roll with.

I'd rather not enforce cookie cutter builds anymore than the community does as it is.

But a BLM going I focused on STR and VIT cause I wanna be different really is a liability.

You do realize some gearscore system is needed to gate the dungeon/raid finder. Because someone with very bad gear missing stuff queuing up and then bringing their whole group down because they don't have adequate gear for the dungeon they want to run. That would just ruin the whole run for everyone that queued up.

Hm well... lets just say if we soily have to be dependent on Gearscore... then this game failed already.
All the new "Players" (PS3 etc), will have no chance of getting any form of help.

But there's still a few of us that can see past "gearscore" and plain
just enjoy helping others with or without gearscore checks.

Hopefully that made more sense.
