Dragoon lore in FFXIV is entirely different from FFXI.

They get their powers from dragonkin; however, that does not mean the two fight alongside one another

However, it doesn't mean they can't choose to fight alongside them. Only SE can dictate the future storyline as we don't even know how it'll change in ARR.

Oh btw, there's a FFXI style Wyvern that DRG had in the .dats for XIV, just sayin.
