While I will be voting no on the poll, very happy with this news. I think a lot of players will also be happy that they know exactly how much time is left for them to earn legacy status (granted, that their account was registered before May)

This was clearly stated in his letter. Only Phase 1 is JP only and for legitimate reasons. They want to make sure that the new client doesn't crash and burn at midnight JP time when only a small group of people are working. Phase 2 and beyond will be open globallyPretty ridiculous only JP can do Alpha. Not surprised, JP is always favored, but when do NA get the same considerations? We put just as much time and effort into FFXIV as them. This is seriously making me consider other games. Once I get into another game, I usually don't come back. Don't screw this up SE, you have already botched the game enough. While the recent improvements have been phenomenal, DON'T give SE priority on Alpha. Our input should count just as much.

Everyone knows what a basic MMO looks like -- That's the problem, because that's exactly what people want XIV to become. Glad Yoshi is smart though.
No thank you, it's time to move on honestly.Should keep the servers live for those who don't make alpha/beta, could just delay the "save" maintenance till a few weeks before 2.0 is ready to hit live if they do indeed give us a option to vote for bringing up the servers again after nov 1st, then it would be best to just delay the save maintenance till the finalized 2.0
I'll be blunt: You clearly know nothing about the business world -- NA companies favor NA players, EU companies favor EU countries -- Why aren't you complaining about that? For certain reasons it's done this way and it makes sense.

Wow...talk about a lack of reading comprehension...Pretty ridiculous only JP can do Alpha. Not surprised, JP is always favored, but when do NA get the same considerations? Normally, the public aren't allowed in alpha-phases, so we should be happy that we're getting a chance to play it at all. Depending on when alpha starts, we could just be talking about something like a week's difference anyway.
And please remember that NA and Japan aren't the only countries/regions playing this game =/
Just for those who think Alpha = Early Beta.
Just know that for the most part Alpha will be SE announcing a time to cram everyone onto a server and watch it crash. Not actually play.
Yea...some people seem to have these delusions they'll be able to get a group out to Garuda during that time...

This would be a bad idea.Should keep the servers live for those who don't make alpha/beta, could just delay the "save" maintenance till a few weeks before 2.0 is ready to hit live if they do indeed give us a option to vote for bringing up the servers again after nov 1st, then it would be best to just delay the save maintenance till the finalized 2.0
Yoshi said it need ~1 month to transfers and convert the files. To wait until 2.0 start would be a 1 month delay for everyone who want to play with the old chars.

This basically. You will also be extremely limited on what you can do in the game. First phase alphas are usually almost unplayable. I know this was the case with Guild Wars 2 and other MMO alphas I tried.
We, the Forum, should brace ourselves for the stupid "GAME KEEPS CRASHING! FIX IT SE!" posts that will no doubt pour in during the Alpha. -_-
