I truly feel it's their PR department getting in the way of the Marketing department. I think that they are still too embarrassed to show this game to the public, especially the US, which is the land of "Western minded" gamers , and the home of the brav..oops the home of the entitled and the complainers.. That's why they're scared putting Gamescom link on our Lodestone US version.

I think their PR department is saying that until FFXIV ARR is fully 100% acceptable, don't even try to get into US market because we may just embarrass and disgrace ourselves again, and we hate to be criticized and mocked again.

Thanks for that Snowy... and to the other peeps on the previous pages, I'd say exercising patience at this point is a great start... and to be honest, the amount of material shown so far is a very decent amount.

First off, remember that the whole presentation is still only in its first day... secondly, there is already a presentation video of the Alpha build; thirdly, there is a fair amount of concept art and in-game renderings which will obviously improve even more by the Beta.

Fourth, there is a huge crowd at this convention... (almost 200k+, some actually tented up outside the premises)...who are already buzzing GREAT things about this game online...

Finally, Nova Crystalis is on twitter to take your questions to Yoshi

Marketing this game financially right now is like playing your very best game of poker... you CANNOT expect Yoshi to give everything away all in one sitting. He has already mentioned that he will be giving information gradually from here on out, which is a VERY sensible plan. One must never play their best hand all at once... always leave something wicked up your sleeve.

You must understand that Square Enix has a potential billion-dollar franchise in FFXIV: ARR and Im certain their PR department will take advantage of the dates they have ahead of them.

There's the 25th Anniversary on September 1st... and then there is the Tokyo Game Show three weeks later (right on SE's home turf)... and three weeks after maybe they might even attend the Game Developers Conference Online (October 9th to 11th, 2012), who knows. Need I spell it out for you any further?

Like I said... this time, they know what they're doing...I'm prepared to be amazed.

Didn't you once claim it was "ludicrously expensive" for SE to advertise overseas? I'm not sure if you're from the United States, but SE commercials play all the time in the weeks leading up to and after big releases. Games like FFXIII and it's sequel, anything Kingdom Hearts, Deus Ex, yadda yadda, are staples of networks like USA, SyFy and Spike TV, and SE has gone as far as actually being the primary sponsor for major sports events and pro wrestling PPVs.

Maybe it's different in Europe, but here? You see SE all the time on TV, it's probably one of the more common gaming companies you see advertising. Additionally, SE made a significant profit last year; they're not in any sort of dire straights, and in fact are doing quite while right now. I'm just not sure where you have this idea that SE can't afford to advertise, or why you think it's prohibitively expensive to advertise.

Why spend money on marketing/advertising when it can do it for less and/or free from game conventions and reviews written from gaming websites and on scene gamers? Most game review websites are at those conventions to begin with anyway and potentially more gamers look to those sites for information regardless of whether or not SE self promotes. Best method of advertising is word of mouth anyway so I see no problem with SE's marketing/advertising campaign.

Marketing for a game several months before launch - in this case "re-launch" - would be a waste of money, especially since ARR is still a work in progress. What they're doing is par for the course for most major game launches.

If marketing does not ramp up in the weeks surrounding launch, though, then I think we should be worried.

yeah it's too early for big commercials, game will be released in more than 6 months right? what would be the point? beta registration won't get money in anyway so they should limit communications to us for the moment and attending games event like they do.

Could be they're just not releasing info because it's either incomplete, not confirmed for release, or they're just trying to make sure they can get everything ready in time for the relaunch date. You can't really be too careful in this stage because if you oversell your product and expectations fall short the backlash can do more harm than good. Look at the PS3 for instance, they over-hyped the console, and at launch it failed to live up to expectations besides being overpriced to boot and it took them years to catch up on sales with their competitors at Microsoft and Nintendo because of it.

Id just as well have them wait, confirm what they have completed, and go from there and have the end product meet or exceed expectations rather than try to sell us a broken dish washer.

After losing so many money on the 1.x , Rebuilding 2.0, why they're not investing money on the marketing, the MOST IMPORTANT thing? They don't even know the power of talking mouths. Or of the media?

    -- clip --

I'm sorry to say but the game will fail to bring old and new customer.
And me, and the curren't player base absolutly don't want this.
SE needs to take a cue from Microsoft.. Microsoft makes terrible bug ridden, standards incomparable software that they usually buy or steal from other companies and claim they are "innovative".. and through their marketing people have been convinced it is somehow desired or even actually good and buy it.

Gets worse tho even after using it and being frustrated by it on a daily basis as it breaks down and causes bugs consistently for most people, their marketing has convinced people that it's actually better than everything else out there somehow and now people almost expect their computers to run this way.

Microsoft is truly a genius marketing team and little more.
