Kind of disappointed with the screenshots they released though, was it really necessary to destroy ishgard when thats the place everyone has wanted to go since release?

I sort of agree with you. It could be an Ishgardian Fortress that is located elsewhere in the region. My main reason for thinking this is that it doesn't look like it's geographically similar, as Ishgard proper is kind of a tower in a valley, and this is flat on the ground. I understand that the world layout is being changed significantly, but this seems like a stretch to me.

It is confirmed, in Katakana i.e. Japanese words based of foriegn languages... it says Ishgard.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that "Ishugarudo fortress was destroyed" probably means "the fortress of Ishgard was destroyed."

Plus Jennestia speaks Japanese. So there's that.
