    No, it means Rivenroad will give you some kinda reward only once. Probably something unimportant like exp or seals, or maybe something everyone gets 100%, but hardmode will apparently have (Dear God, here we go) a low drop rate reward...

    It says the former will not give an reward after you beat it once, this is why i asked is because the former fight they mentioned is the hard mode.

    * Completing the sidequest "Living on a Prayer" unlocks both "Rivenroad" and "Rivenroad (Hard)" repeatable battles. Please note, however, that no further reward will be issued for completing the former.
    Former would mean the first, meaning "Rivenroad".

    Former is the one mentioned beforehand. Latter for be the latest mentioned. So Former is not hard mode.
