Most of their members are polite and helpful (Zozor, Twenty) and as for posting in general forums, will, if you are not convinced of their reasoning, who gives a @#$#? We have ppl that spams forums with all sorts of nonsense with a sense of entitlement its sickening (just look at first page).
I dont think people have any trouble with BG, as they are a well respected group, they also have their enemies too (like any other high LS) Its most likely the fact that they put the recruit in general section instead of the server specific threads thats caused all this ruckus.

You cant say that everyone that doesnt praise them on this thread is butthurt and that jealousy is causing it. Thats just ridiculous delusions of grandeur and unfair to even neutral posters too. Its more of an unsaid/unstated consideration that other endgame LSs kept, even tho im pretty much sure all of them would have liked to recruit cross-server for exceptional members the coming 2.0, that kept them from posting smack in the general section. I mean hey, it could have been posted half jokingly, but to be fair, there would be no end to it if all the endgame oriented LSs decided to post their recruit in general section for cross server advertisement. Most people already know BG in FFXIV as an exceptional LS, they provide the community with alot of useful information even tho they are not obligated to. But as wonderful as they are, there are just some borderline things that the community appreciates. Its pretty much same as RL things. There is a borderline that every nice, good, exceptional person can do, but if they cross it, it gets ugly.

hi! i'm not sure how this keeps popping up since it keeps getting answered, but:

The Bulls, or any team still call them selves The Bulls, despite people quitting, being traded, or retiring etc. Same concept.

Precisely. Despite whatever members your LS is comprised of now, you're still called BG - and with that, you still carry whatever reputation and feelings people have towards you, ill or otherwise.
So, plenty of people will still hate your LS, until they see otherwise.

And, as previously stated, the 'About us' page is just asking for the hurt.

I think rather that comment is directed that yes, you are in fact the same LS and you are the same dirty cheaters.

A few times, people have brought up the notion of gear or experience as prerequisites for breaking into the endgame. This plays into how you can show that you're hungry for it.

    Regarding gear:

The kinds of gearsets you put together for your character show how much you care independent of your actual level of endgame experience. If you do not have access to Darklight, you can still put together some sick sets. Double-melds are not very punishing unless you're looking at some of the highly desired materia for the relic quest (Savage Might, Heaven's Eye), and even then you can use high tier 3s to try to get as close as possible. As time goes on, a lot of gear depth has been added -- Giantsgall, Coliseum, GC lt. weapons and officer gear, craftables from Castrum Novum, etc. There's a huge difference between someone who just wears whatever s/he found on their retainer versus someone who cares enough about what s/he is wearing to try to make intelligent choices.

We have always been very realistic when looking at applicants and where they're coming from. As the original post states, we're willing to invest in players who demonstrate a lot of potential. Although it's far easier for someone to make the transition if s/he has as much experience as us (or close to it), it is not a prerequisite.

    As for experience:

We think that even if someone isn't in a linkshell that's actively pursuing endgame content, there are still ways to try to see the content. The two methods I've used in this game and in other games are pick-up groups and networking with friends in other linkshells to form groups. Pick-up groups are understandably stigmatized by many players, but for people who can be assertive, it is possible to wrangle people into success. Networking requires a little more of a selfstarter attitude, but good players can be found across swathes of different linkshells. In fact, networking is how I got into BG in the first place, way back in October/November 2010. I was grinding on raptors with 22, Mav, and a few others. They thought I was a raging asshole because I kept on preemptively pulling the next raptor and arriving back at the party with 1/3 of my HP left.

For those of you who feel trapped where you're at, I suggest trying to take some initiative. Send out some feelers to friends whom you trust, make posts about static groups; see if you can find other hungry players.

I think the [+] this comment received missed out on the fact that I am making fun of the people who would [+] on this attitude and not really directing malice towards 3p app users in XI.

Still find it amazing after a decade you still have to rely on a windower in FFXI for basic features.
