Relic - Opportunity for removing Gil from the system

For the stage of the Relic weapon quest where one has to double meld materia onto the class weapons why doesn't square offer the weapons and materia for sale from an NPC? I feel like this would be a good way to remove gil from the system and even the playing field for newer members.

I know there are possible problems such as people undercutting those prices on the wards, or preying on ignorance of new players who might not know those items are available for sale from an npc, and the aspect of a time sink that would be partially removed from the game.

I am by no means a player that does not have a large amount of gil, so please do not take this as me complaining about the system that we currently have.

What do the rest of you think?

Gil is already being removed from the system by means of market ward taxes. A higher price means more of the income is lost to the 5% tax.

It also serves as a good method of redistributing wealth from the old hoarders to those people who have now desirable materia(ls).

If someone wants a relic that badly, it means they'll be pouring assets into the game's economy. Good stimulus package.

I'm personally for more NPC based gil sinks.
I'm sorry but 5% tax isn't gonna do anything to this economy. That's like taking a dollar away from a millionaire.

Actually, that'd be like taking $50,000 away from a millionaire.

    On topic:
Why isn't it an option to try and make your own materia? That's how the other players are making the ones you buy... Just load up on a ton of cheap gear that turns into the type you need, and go on a spiritbond binge. That's what I plan on doing when I eventually try and go for a relic. I mean, if you have enough people to do Hamlet/dungeons/primal fights for it, spiritbonding isn't a problem.

    Nope
Like someone mention, relic is currently the whole game, fighting, crafting, gathering, and a hell lot of patience meld into one
You could say that relic currently is the ultimate challenge, and removing the weapon and materia will make it less challenging

Ah yes, but you've forgotten the most basic premise of all economies everywhere.

People will pay to be lazy.

Well there is some small element of a gil sink in this. We still need to buy some mats from an npc. Coke for example.

I browse through a couple posts in these threads every time and I'm sorry if this has been brought up (edit: besides the previous poster who beat me by 4 minutes), but every relic attempt takes gil out of the economy, and nobody is getting one without spending at least 50k gil at an npc.

Hardened sap, coke, etc.. only available from an npc. Some people buy in the wards, but the initial seller had to buy from an npc.

50k gil each time you even attempt to make the weapon, nevermind double melding it, is a pretty good gil sink imo.
