I agree.. I rather not have the use of Menus, when I can just enter whatever it is I am entering to ( Airship mostly) and wait for the Airship to go. one of the things I loved XI for.

If Menus are extremely needed use them, otherwise make us interact with the world not through menus.

Also your example about the airship is slightly flawed! The menu you need to go through is the one that is nescessary so that only those with a ticket pass. I don't think I know of a better way short of invisible wall to handle that. Minor point aside, what I said in my first line.
I am of course, Skies, referring to airship terminal locations in Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa, which we can only access through a mangled lift menu. Lifts are fine and fun, and the animations are nice (even if the one in Ul'dah still, from time to time, kicks me out of the game); however, the menu--in both cities--does not list destination floors in the proper order, and there is no alternative, "physical" way to approach the airship port. When using the lift there's no clear sense of up and down, and this is rather disorienting. Could you point exactly where the airstrip is in either city? Geography matters.

I was not aware of this statement. Do you care to quote?

You should be able to access AH, Grand Company, and the airship dock without having to zone. Or with "Zoning" like the dock system in XI.

come to think of it, XI had an AH in the middle of the city no zoning required. Hopefully 2.0 can supply this too!

Actually, I am pretty confident that the airstrip in Ul'dah is located right above the alchemist guild. Given the position of the elevator, it's pretty much logical. I could also say that the Limsan airstrip is located in the highest portion of the mast given it's the only area with proper clearance. Also now I see what you mean.
In that particular case i'm not really sure the menu is a thing, I know places that can definitely only be reached through a RL menu (through an elevator, no less!), though given, it's in a military installation but still-

Those are uniquely particular cases, and I know you are talking about stuff like the Market Wards entrance that leads 'everywhere'.

That said, I am still not against menus, rather, with or without, I could not care less.

And for the other airship port you enter the lift and press the right button. Don't know if they can do this without a menu where you choose which floor you want.
Or they can build some stairs.
In Ul'dah, i always thought those stairs leading up near the Alchemist Guild would go to the airship dock. I wonder if that was the original intent, and in their haste to implment them made them the way they are now?

It's been in several of the past interviews with Yoshie. Don't know which ones, but they're out there if you search. It was around the time airships where instituted.

Its possible. Every MMO not made by Square Enix has accomplished it.

How many of you out there agree with me when I ask that, if the developers are going to fix one aspect of the cites in version 2, that aspect be the elimination of all menu entrances to sectors of the city? Perhaps we could say it's not the highest of priorities, but it frankly affects my feeling of the environment an awful lot.

We were told, I think by the previous development team, that the menus would be temporary. We (or at least I) would like to know if that statement still stands.

I think it definitely should. What about you?

Ah, and another thing: It would be much nicer if the inter-city teleporters displayed a spell effect of some sort, like all other teleporting in the game does.

Short and simple answer: The cities will not be heavily revamped, so the answer to the topic question is probably "through menus."
