It would probably be mainly asthetic differences. Perhaps chocbos cast spells with magic damage where instead its Breath's for Wyverns.

Also, given the diversity of the system, nothing really prevents Patron pets from being diversified among the jobs. Although, I'd be pissed if I had to be some specific job class to ride a magitek Armor.

As I said before 'Job Specific' Wyvern is a contention point for me too, but it's the best compromise for the current demands. Maybe we can sacrifice a Chocobo Slot for a Wyvern slot in order to house it, and that can be fair.

hmmm sorry about that, dont know why I read more into it then what was actually there. And you are incorrect about there being only 2 threads concerning wyvern there have been lots.

I missed 2 but as far as i know 4 isnt exactly several was expecting 10+ posts about wyverns not 4 (1 of which was before the dragoon was introduced and was more of a question of if they had a pet or not).

There was definitely more. I distinctly recall a day shortly after the first live letter where there was about 5 different dragoon/pet threads on the first page of general discussion alone. And threads pile up like sand in the desert in there.

yea i remember there being loads about the pet, people requesting it people asking other people what they think about it not having a pet and so on.

And yet, this is the sole survivor of the ancient times, the only thread that struggled past patch and patch, sense and logic, to be here, right now, offering us it's tale.

its because they have mostly all been made in the General discussion forum instead of the dragoon forum like they should be. I'm not making this up lol I'm strongly against Hyperbole.

I won't complain about the amount of Wyvern Posts, All i want to say is I've always wanted my own dragon (as a kid) it would be the most awesomest-eststest pet ever, and i don't often use that word. (in fact it's my frist time ever saying that)

Having a wyvern would play right into that childhood fantasy making the game all that more awesome to me, regardless of how it's achieved.

I for one think you could make it a quest one where at the end you decide whether or not you want to give physical form to your inner dragon or further harness it within your own body thereby granting you the skill "Summon Wyvern" or in the case of the later, a slew of breath attacks or the like that you can use at your leisure.

Would be cool to have them just for WS help like say if your gonna do a Jumping Ws the dragon would swoop in pick you up to say 10-15ft and let you go into a flip/diving ws

So I have read through this entire topic and figured that I could put my two sense in.
Do I want a Wyvern? No, and here is why.
-I enjoyed my Dragoon when I played Final Fantasy XI, but this isn't XI.
-The lore treats the Dragoons as having an affiliation with the dragons a bit like jedi powers. It's like having a light and a dark side. Proximity to Dragons, Wyverns, Drakes and other similar creatures corrupts the Dragoon, who is in a constant war with the power within them to control and harness this ability to destroy Dragons.
-The Devs made it very clear that if we got a wyvern we were going to get another...ANOTHER hit to our abilities and strength balance for it and the first one was severely disappointing (even though Dragoon IS still my favorite class).
-I like being underestimated now, and with proper execution can be one of the most efficient DD's on any of the Ifrit run teams I have been on with basic AF armor, it's not the skills now, it's how they are used. Dragoon IS balanced now, it just takes smarts and practice to use efficiently. I don't want to have to have the balance ripped away now that we are for the sake of nostalgia or lore breaking.

Now those points being made, I want to stress, I liked Dragoon in XI...I even liked the feeling of the Wyvern with me. I'd like to feel there is a nice middle ground (perhaps a separate class that is not a dragoon that is devoted to protecting Dragons? or a lore spike that follows what happens to the Dragoons that are corrupted by Dragon influence and having a separate job for it, but all new skills), though I fear that the middle grounds could be fraught with potential issues as well.
Either way, I wanted to take a moment and make my first post about my two sense concerning the Wyvern.
