Let us solo with our companions

For an NPC called my companion, they're barely ever there. They don't travel to aetherite crystals with me and won't fight when I'm attacked.

I think that overhauling the companion system and making it so that they aid us while we're soloing would add some depth into otherwise dull NPCs.

you're talking about the story NPC u get? if so i agree.

There so boring in combat plus u only seen them in story missions i would love to be able to summon my NPC out to fight alone side me as well while hes out if i'm attacked don't just stand there and look at me like i have 2 heads, They should be trying to defend me.

The NPC system they had back in FFXI was awesome u had to level them up could only call them so many times a week and loads more. Tho this is a different game would be nice to seem them bring that in with our story NPC's.

Tho i did hear there doing something like this with retainers not sure if its true or not

In 2.0 they're adding a system wherein you can have your chocobo not just as a travel aid but also as a battle companion.
It's not hard to extrapolate that if we still have NPC companions by then, they're probably going to be useable in a similar fashion since a system is already in place

I certainly hope so. That would be pretty great to say the least.

Considering you have the option of raising your chocobo into a tank, damage dealer, healer, or item storage type chocobo, it would be nice if there was an alternative NPC to fight with you.

Personally, I'm not really a fan of fighting chocobos. I think the whole idea is a bit silly, but maybe that's just me.

I really want to have my companion to become something like my Adventuring Fellow in FFXI.

To be able to level them up and maybe have quests to have them learn new skills.

I know we've had word Chocobo's will become battle companions. But we already have a companion. I hope we can make more use of them. Increase the bond, use them in solo situations and stuff. I already like my companion, I want to make more use of her.

Agreed, I really enjoyed the use of the companion in 11 and the quests with them in 14. I don't want to be able to solo the world with them in 14, but it would be nice to have a little back up from time to time. I'm also not a fan of the fighting chocobo... I'd rather have something sentient, or it'll just be like beastmaster. The companions in 14 have too much personality to just be put on the back shelf.

Agreed 100%. I would much rather have my travel companion fight by my side than my chocobo. And I'd rather it not be restricted to solo situations. How nice would it be if you could use a companion to fill a spot or two in that party you just can't quite get together! Of course it would be a terrible idea for fights that involve strategy, such as primals, but it would be great for less-intense situations.

My understanding is the main storyline is getting a complete overhaul. if that's the case, this companion may no longer exist.

If they are expanding the retainer/chocobo things to be more of a companion, it would make sense that this companion just disapears and are replaced by retainers/chocobo.

I would love to see a variety of summonable NPCs. certain situations where summoning my retainer vs my chocobo would be more ideal. it would help with immersion as well.

A bit off topic, but I also want mounted combat! maybe something to add to Hamlet defense. once you hit a certain rank you can be part of the 'cavalry' vs part of the foot force. this could be a great expansion on PvP as well. open field battles (not open world necessarily, but just a wide open area as the arena) could get a lot more strategic if you have cavalry, foot, and archer squads. and then a squad of THF and NIN to flank!
