That's pretty much what he stated. They're roaming > claim > sent to an instance. It's really the only way to handle it.
Who knows, I just know we're going to lose the story related portion of them. The weapons are already getting outdated so that's where some people's assumptions are coming from since we do know the main purpose of primals in 2.0 is for Free-Companies to summon them (the existing ones at least, who knows about the future ones), so that might be the only reward, no one knows.
Realistically, they should have just made them like XI's avatar battles.

that seems like a pretty stupid assumption, seems to me control of a primal is just icing on the cake otherwise no one would bother fighting a primal until it is controllable completely locking out the content for 2 week periodsWho knows, I just know we're going to lose the story related portion of them. They likely won't go anywhere, and we are probably correct in assuming that after we claim them in open world, the instanced fight will be identical to the current ones. However, I think the weapons will just become extremely hard to get that way because you will get 1 fight per server per week maybe? It's not like currently where anyone that throws 8 people together can go fight them an infinite amount of times.
Or they can go the route of leaving them in the game how they currently are, as in leaving the quests for the fights in game etc and ALSO having a roaming version with a different instanced fight that ONLY rewards the ability to summon the primal. To avoid loopholes in the lore, they could make the current battles only available during times when they are NOT currently roaming? Just a thought.
