FFXI flavor music for FFXIV

Battle Themes are certainly not Mizuta's strong point. However, zone and scenario themes by Mizuta are easily amongst the best composed in video games.

The new credits screen of course.

The problem aren't the pieces themselves, its the fact that they weren't made to cater the areas they are supposed to add depth to.

All that needed to be said for FFXIV's music.

Nobuo was amazing once upon a time, but his style of music in recent memory has been underwhelming. Naoshi Mizuta on the other hand continues to impress with each passing game he does. In my opinion he is the Nobuo of today.

I'm inclined to disagree, despite my not caring about The Last Story's OST, I thought Lost Odyssey and XIV are fantastic. XIV only suffers from being overly repetitive and feeling out of place in some instances.

I stated in a later post that it was something that I would like to see happen. Not sure if that's the case. However, Mizuta is in the credits for this game.

Three composers, all now listed in the game credits, have taken Nobuo's place since 1.18. Some of the new tracks are still Nobuo's, such as the Castrum Novum theme, as they were among the original 76 tracks he made but no place had been found to suit them previously.

So far the new work turned out has been pretty great, the RotZ co-composer doing some of our beastman music while Mizuta pulls out his own and some Hamauzu style building strings and great ambiance. Allegedly Good King Mog was Nobuo's composition, but I don't know where to check that.

On a side-note I wish they would add a few more tracks per major zone, following a similar theme but definitely distinct. Not separated by sub-area typically, but having more to do with what the character is and has been doing lately, maybe even slightly based on the weather, in a sort of fluid merging of each of the tracks.
