I also see we have a new community Rep. Hello Rukkirii!

Anyway though, I have to say one of the biggest issues is the fact we're allowed to change classes at will, which causes us to gear up for pretty much every class at once. I'm personally 65/10 between Marauder, Pugilist, Gladiator, Conjurer, Thaumaturge, Carpenter, Black Smith, Armorer, Gold Smith, Tanner, and Weaver. With the basic mats I carry at all times as well, I'm at 80/100... The last 20 slots get spammed full with useless crap like vegetables from monkeys, and other parts.

Another problem I'm not sure if anybody brought up is that your equipped gear takes up inventory space. In other games once you equip something it's out of your inventory. Just my gear is 55 slots of my inv and 10 more are repair mats for helping out others.

I feel like we need to have 100 bazaar slots on each retainer. That way goods can move freely through the market. For instance, on one of my retainers I have stacks of wood of every kind, feathers of every kind, and fiber of every kind just from botany. It's like 80 unique items at least. I need 80 retainer slots just to put all that for sale and try to move it through the market to other players who need it. It's not doing anybody any good when it's sitting in my retainer while I try to sell 10 random logs.

i'm guilty of hording items but thats not my main issue,
I want a mog house or the ffxiv equivilant, i want a space to decorate, to collect event items, to craft items for, set up my manaquine to display my hard erned armour,
I also like crafting in my "mog house" fells wrong finding a corner in the street to craft!

I agree that homelessness is our primary cause of lack of space.
I don't have any space! I sleep under my retainer stand and tell them to act cool when the constables come by.

I run out of inventory constantly. It's not I am trying to keep all junk or unwanted items but it all add up:
    1. Tools on multiple jobs - each with 1~3 weapons/ammo/tools/baits. I have 18 jobs that's around 36 if averaging 2 slots each. Tossing the crafting tools to retainer storage while going out playing DoW/DoM/DoL jobs isn't feasible, as it would require 7 (crafting jobs) x 2 (# of tools) = 14 slots available on retainer's inventory and around 5 minutes of swapping every time.
    2. Gears on multiple jobs - Tanking gear takes 11 slots (head/body/hands/waist/leg/feet/wrist x2/ring x3), DD-heavy armor type takes 0 additional slots as I share my tanking gear on this. Mage gear takes 7 additional slots (head/body/hands/leg/feet/ring x2). DD-soft armor type take about 4 more extra. Gathering gear takes 6 additional slots (head/body/hands/waist/leg/feet). Crafting gear needs almost two sets - one set of 6 items for wvr/alc/cul (head/body/hands/waist/leg/feet) and the other of 6 items for bsm/arm/gld (head/body/hands/waist/leg/feet) and a 3 more for fav crp/tan only. This total up to 37 minimum for me.
    3. Crafting materials - these are divided to material for ranking up and material for making for money/friends. To rank up, no HQ mat is needed but when surplus comes in you have to stop and switch! Tell me if you can craft 200 synths without hitting surplus - I can't. For me I have ranking up mat for mostly ALC/WVR/BSM/ARM/TAN/CRP for being able to reach the self-repairing rank and to complete the sub-craft rank requirement for my main craft. I can't toss them out because I am not using - it's mostly because I am waiting surplus to go away before switching back. I play a lot, yet I don't have time to consume all even after surplus kicks in. These take about 150 slots claimed for just 6 crafting jobs. Then talk about keeping material for making money - hmm don't tell me if you don't ever keep the HQ mat! Oh wait.. aren't there +1/+2/+3 on these? I have at least 50 slots claimed just to save the HQ mats and the list is growing. Limited selling spots don't help either so there it's ever growing. And to make for friends... well we can throws this out of window 'cus we are all mean and we don't want to help! Nay I am not mean so I have to bear the burden.
    4. Repairing mat - this category claims about 10 slots of my inventory.

A quick count of 1) and 2) above - that's about 70 slots of my inventory fixed! I only have 30 slots to do inventory management daily. I must concur that SE wants to promote multi-job playing style and this fixed 70 slots isn't helping.

And I didn't include the gathering loot NQ/+1/+2/+3 and mob loot NQ/+3 to the mix as they can only go into the 30 variable slots (if not to be saved for long!) (minus 10-15 slots on repairing mat) I can't imagine this is enough for even 1 hour of gathering or farming.

Increasing more inventory isn't the real cure - I agree. I think the problem is the number of tools/gears needed combined with the variety of item multiplied with HQ versions.

    So I would propose:
    1. Making a gear tab or making gear (tools/weapon/wearable) not counting toward inventory space
    2. Having +1, +2 and +3 share the same inventory slot as the NQ (say the item slot has +1, +2 and +3 buckets indicating the number of each), with combined quantity not maxing out the cap (say 40x NQ, 15x +1, 5x +2 and 2x +3 all sharing the same item slot - 62 out of 99)
    3. Easier inventory management system -
      • multi-select and drag-and-drop between player and retainers
      • resizable inventory windows for less scrolling overhead
      • right mouse click for quick transfering on single item
      • bigger trading slots
      • checking retainer inventory items anywhere - like the /storage command in FFXI
      • centralized management window for managing multiple retainers at once

I am sure a lot people here share the same experience. It gets more visible when you get more multi-tasked on different jobs.

I can hear the devs now

Rukkirii: Hey guys they want more space

Devs: What? why? Their character and two free retainers can carry 100 items each already. Ok whatever.

    *in the future*

Rukkirii: Hey guys i guess they want even more space

Devs: you serious? we already gave them 500 slots per character/retainer

Rukkirii: We're still getting a ton of complaints

Game renamed "Final Hoarders XIV" in the next patch

    Joking aside

I think they should change the rate at which items are created/found instead of increasing our inventories more. just my opinion

I am not overwhelmed with items, I try to keep only what is necessary and sell what is not. Not only does it helps the economy by putting back merchandise on the market, it frees my inventory of items i don't use much. One of my retainer is for equipment while the other is for synthesis items. I don't think it would help to increase inventory size to the point where people can keep every piece of junk their character gets their hands on. Where would the economy go then? We can have 99 as stack for items, why sell when you can keep anything without worries? Ok, that would be a bit on the extreme side to have inventory/storage that big, but I get the feeling some people will keep complaining about storage until we do have that.

Oh~, I do train all the classes too, so I know what I'm talking about when it comes to having A LOT of items to deal with.

That's my personal feeling about it, hopefully it helps the devs.

Yes, this or even a bank type system would be fine for items we need not carry around. I really liked the mog house style in FFXI and also the bank/guild bank system in games like WoW. The latter makes donating crafting items or other items I don't use to linkshell friends seamless.

Honestly, the main issues I personally see with storage are gear and event/special items.

Playing a lot of classes means a gear set for each. I don't doubt that some people can share a lot of gear between classes, but I am not one of them due to my classes of choice and the rank differences between them. I want to have a full set of rank and class appropriate gear to use for each class that I play regularly. And lets not go into the advice that it is a good idea to swap rings to help boost your various class stats, as if I want to use 12 inventory slots to buy more rings to use on my crafting and DoW classes! xD

Event items aren't a problem now, but down the line I can see it being an issue. Already we've got the Dream set and Usagi helms, which are fun mementos but for the most part just for show. I certainly don't want to throw away my festive seasonal gear, even if I only wear it in December. And I am guessing that there will be more such gear and items in the future, especially once the dev team gets the game fixed up and can focus more on seasonal events.
