I had a talk with my Japanese friend about this yesterday since this is a hot topic on their side of the forums, he thinks most jp players want a jp only server because they're afraid to meet people outside their country not because they hate the world but because they have issues going outside their comfort zone. No doubt the language barrier is also the cause, if they could add a auto-translate along the lines of <I have the knowledge to do the fight> maybe that would help. But it looks like JackDaniels came across an Oni (Japanese Troll)

    My suggestion(s):

    1. Servers in several different geographical locations, every player would be free to select which ever server they wanted to go to, depending on what they value most out of low latency and the ability to play with people in certain time zones.

    2. Global world servers, but during combat instances, players will be temporarily transfered to a regional server which will host that particular instance. WHen the instance is over, all players are returned to the "regular" world servers, where people from all regions play. Which region you get transfered to will depend on where most of the players in a party/alliance has set as their preferred region in the game's settings. In a US-based linkshell, most people would set their preferred region to North America, and thus as they enter ther instances, they will all be hosted on a server located in North America. Or an European server if most members have set Europe as their preferred location.

This will allow for the difficulties of all instanced battles to be as fair as possible for all players. Currently, fights that rely on fast reflexes and movement are greatly skewed in favor of Japanese players, because they are sitting on probably around 70 ms lag or less, while the rest of us have three times as much. For Japanese players, what seems hard to us is is of average difficulty for them. What is of average difficulty for us is easy for them. At least in the context of fights that are timing/movement/reaction heavy.

How difficult this is to implement in their server infrastructure, I have no idea. Hopefully, it is doable, and hopefully, they will seriously consider this option.

You cant let people choose. If you saw the launch of TERA you would understand. It's either segregated or it's not.

@ FFXI NA launch, forcing people into servers was the smartest thing SE ever did in an MMO

That's not surprising. The Japanese as a whole are pretty xenophobic. (if you want to be a nurse in japan, you pretty much have to be born and raised japanese) it's getting better in certain circles, but other circles are very much JP only (like gaming).

I'd recommend memorizing the phrase for 'my japanese is not very good, please be patient with me' that got me a long way with Japanese groups in XI. I imagine it will be similar here. if you can show good awareness and ability to read the field of battle should have no problems.

Can't believe you actually said that. Poor show.

Learn to live with the rest of the world squire, it's getting closer every day so you may as well embace it.

Saying that 9 times out of then they don't want to party with you probably says more about you than them.

You could always try learning a bit of Japanese?

Cultural Diversity is what makes Final Fantasy XI and XIV unique.

Lol please don't lecture me about cultural diversity. I come from Ottawa ∴ I know and love many different cultures. This however is a game, and in games I like to communicate with people. The auto-translate function is dodgy at best. How many japanese people replied to Lv45 {Chocobo} {Grand Company Quest} {Looking for members}? Guess? Out of 7 people that replied. I'll give you a hint. Its less than one and more than negative one. This is not a single occurrence, this has been on-going for 11 years.

Just to make myself clear, I love Japanese culture and I dreamed of moving to JP when I grew up. I consider myself an otaku of sorts and I can't get enough sake. That's not the point though is it. Stop making me out to be a bigot because you don't want segregated servers. Obvious ad-homonym attack is obvious.

    No Thanks.
I never had a problem with the Japanese players. If anything, they are sometimes better then most American players and back in FFXI I actually had more fun with them /then/ american players.

You just have to learn, that like us, some of them just don't like dealing with us and others, will give it a shot. Just the way people are. Honestly even the suggestion kinda annoys me. Kinda like when you have some american players who think the Japanese players can't understand english and say BS about them.

I kinda laughed once in FFXI when I knew the party leader could speak english, it was mostly a Japanese party, we only two of us english speakers.. and one guy had to go. We got a new guy in the party who was an english speaker and he noticed the japanese language on the party chat. He made some rude remark, the party leader went: "Really?" and then booted him.

    I cracked up. XD

So yeah, another lesson there. Just because they also are speaking japanese. They may also know English. So never judge the book by the cover, or one for many.

99.9% of all shouts coming from japanese do not include auto-translate function. I actually go out of my way to tell these shouters {i dont speak any japanese} {ifrit}? {moogle}? {garuda}? {chocobo}{grand company quest}? and all i get is a japanese reply or none at all.

Apologies then mate I didn't mean to judge so harshly, but your original post struck me as somewhat aggressive that's all. I lived in Japan myself for years and always found them excellent to play with. I'm a bit protective you see.

Maybe you're just angry that you can't understand them, so the natural reaction is to reject them and retreat into a comfort zone? Please don't take that the wrong way because i've been there myself. It's easier to go back to what you know than try and push through a better solution, especially with language.

If I'm right or wrong or whatever, that doesn't matter really, I just think retreating onto segregated servers is not the answer to the problem.

It is a problem, but if it can be fixed with jp/na and eu staying together then it's worth working on.

A fully functional auto-translate function would be an answer to the problem. Thanks for civility, muchly appreciated. I didn't mean to come off so abrasive, someone pissed in my cornflakes this morning, and seeing a constant flood of squigle text without a single auto-translate perturbed me.
