Ah yeah, my mistake, After Years came out in 2008. I've been trying to do some research on the whole rights thing and nothing crops up. So I guess it's okay for them to use their names.

Biggs and Wedge should be part of FFXIV. I hope we get to see lots of them
Yeah...company's can't copyright peoples names. Not first ones at least. I'm sure if it was possible Lucas would be the one to do it, and then no one could ever name their main character Luke ever again.
From what I've gathered they were originally soldiers in the Star Wars universe that would always get the short end of the stick, but were pretty prominent as background characters in the TV series they showed back in the 70's early 80's I believe. I think Wedge even died in the first movie only to reappear in the TV series which basically told what went on between the movies.
FF's famous duo was probably a parody of the two that just turned out to become another popular meme in the FF franchise.

Well as I said, it was just something I had heard, and regardless, for whatever reason, we have not seen them in a game in quite a few FF generations.
There is a difference between homage and plagarism. That's why Family Guy and Robot Chicken were able to make their Star Wars parodies.
Biggs and Wedge should be the vendors that sell the magitek armor to us or the npcs that give the quest to get them
I'd like to see original characters unlike the rest of the entire games industry. SE doing fan service like the DLC bosses in XIII-2 diminishes the brand value. Also XIV doesn't yet have a lot of good original charaters so I think it should be a priority over wallowing in memorabilia.
This is why I give so much respect to SE for their work on the FF series.
Even reoccurring themes like moogles and chocobos were painstakingly re-designed for every iteration.
I love Shiva but I always want to see a new incarnation of it over a used (albeit spectacular) X or VIII version.
Having Cloud jump in in the middle of a GC quest would be a disservice to the memory of VII and to the future of XIV. Don't turn deep characters into mascots, that's what Kingdom Hearts series is for.
How does having FF bosses show up in a FF game diminish the brand value of the FF series? There's no storyline to them, they're just bosses to fight in optional content.
That's fine with the primary characters, but Biggs and Wedge are just a clever recurring nod to the fans of the series. Likening it to having Cloud jump out in a cut-scene is a bit silly.I'd like to see original characters unlike the rest of the entire games industry.
