There are plenty of ways to fix latency without the need of regional servers. Better net-code would be a start. Making effects client side instead of server side would be another.

Still, EU players will be forced to have 250~320ms latency, even if the netcode is "perfect". And that's not enjoyable in a modern MMO.
There is no way to lower these 250~320ms besides having a server physically located in EU (or NA at the very least).

you risk dividing the already meager player base, by playing it safe on both sides. Assuming 2.0 is the smash hit everyone thinks it is, International Servers will remain in limbo much like they are now while new people will subscribe to a regional. you must also remember it was also said that we can create 8 Characters for little to no surcharge, that put another hole in the international Servers, as people will create alts on regional keep there international subs for whatever reason (international Server Friday?).I feel pretty confident that it won't ruin the experience for any of us who really wants lower latencies, and at the same time realizes that as long as regions aren't forced, we can play with both our european and american friends.
International servers haven't been required to make other MMOs successful, why would FF14 automatically fail (implying it could fail more than it already has!) by adding regionals?
Long story short the cards are stacked against international for plethora of reasons...IF regionals are created. there is only one way international servers may be of use. that is to place at least 2 international servers in each respective region, of course somebody will still get the shitty end of the stick if you want to follow you LS mates.
there are networking technologies out there that make the regional vs international very nulled
Please tell me about them
Yeah I'd like to hear as well. I suppose all MMO editors are stupid to have EU servers. They should hire you instead. Could it be Blizzard, Trion, EA-Bioware, NCSoft, SEGA, and list goes on...
Why all these company spend money to have localized servers if there is a miracle technique that nullify latency effects on end users?

One way is to design a relay server for the primary server and stick them in each region, depending on the speed of the relay server you could cut transmission times in half. the other is to Contact ISP's, establish Relations with those ISP's and have the ISP's Relay all Server Transmissions along the quickest path possible which would help EU players more than anyone.
sure both cost money, but they are viable options. then again so are regional servers, why spend money when you already have the equipment to make the regionals
Even if you go straight from A to B, improving the pathing, you will still have a bad latency for EU. Especially EU to Japan, way more difficult route than EU to US.
As for other companies, all of them had foreign HQ before their EU HQ... So they did spend money to get that equipment and have regional servers. Regarding establishing relations with ISP seriously lol, for a game like XIV, with a laughable amount of total subscribers, let alone EU... ISPs wouldn't bother have any deal with SE.

Valmonte if Blizzard, probably one of the richest mmo companies out there still have regional specifics for WoW (even with its realm into realm functions) and have regional servers for D3, i dont think your idea work very well otherwise they would of gone with it.
Rich and Give Shit don't usually go hand in hand, besides there working with what they know works and for Blizzard that's Regional. Relay Servers are a good option For SE however like blizzard there only goal is making money, not spending it making a Relay infrastructure for a few thousand players that may or may not increase.
