Will there be a wipe between 2.0 beta and 2.0 live?

Here is how I read it from the official timeline:


1.23 ends around Aug 1st and then we see the radical changes to in-game world.

Early October, we get new 2.0 client - and servers shut down for a month.

Early November, PS3 Closed Beta test starts (using promotional passes I'm guessing) and PC Free Trial begins.

Normal billing begins around February 1, 2013

So, I'd say that since the November launch of 2.0 (PC) is a FREE TRIAL and not a Beta Test, we won't have to make new chars (that will get wiped).

However, the PS3 will have an actual Beta Test... so a wipe is quite likely for chars created during that period.

There will be no beta test for PC users as such, we're just changing over from Version 1.23 to Version 2.0 client and continuing to play, we will not be having new chars or losing any progress.

There isnt going to be a wipe. One day youll be playing on 1.xx and then the next day you are playing on 2.xx. It would make NO sense to have a few 2.0 servers running with 1.xx servers. None at all. There would be such a huge divide in the community that no one would want to play. You would have people who for 3 months want to continue with their 1.xx chars, and people who cant wait to max out the current 2.0 content. This would DESTROY servers. They would need to merge 1.xx servers just so those who want to wait behind and finish content on their perm chars can keep playing.

All in all....It would just be a huge mess. It wouldnt be worth it. When 2.0 comes out, we wont see half-assed patches for a long while. SE NEEDS 2.0 to be good, and they will squash anything that even looks slightly like a game breaking bug the day its found. Nothing on the road map even hints to them doing ANYTHING like this anyways.

Like I said. One night, youll log off in 1.xx land, and then the next day youll wake up to 2.0 land. There will be no in between. There will be no great player divide of those who want to max out all the content they can in 3 months, only to have that character deleted, and those who just want to keep leveling, crafting, questing, etc in 1.xx. There will be no temp chars. There will be no clone chars. There will be 1.xx, and then there will be 2.0. Nothing more, nothing less.

SE needs to test the 2.0 client out-of-house, or the launch of 2.0 would be a repeat of 1.XX launch. It makes no sense to go from 1.XX to bareback 2.0 without any kind of bug tests. It would just mean bad bugs, exploits, and just all round bad stuff. If SE would decide to have 2.0 server(s) at the same time as the 1.XX servers it would merely act as a testing server. THIS IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM DIVIDES THE COMMUNITY ALMOST ALL OTHER MMOs HAVE A TEST SERVER. If the 2.0 server IS a TEST SERVER then it would be whiped, meaning ALL PROGRESS ON THAT SERVER WILL BE LOST, BUT YOUR 1.XX CHARACTERS WOULD REMAIN AS THEY WERE ON THE 1.XX SERVERS.

I am sorry for caps but this is just getting ridiculous. I am a major in Computer Science and a BASIC FUNDAMENTAL STEP IN SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT IS OUT-OF-HOUSE TESTING. If SE chooses to skips THIS FUNDAMENTAL STEP it would yield nothing but bad results and crushed dreams.

Nobody in this thread knows what SE is going to do with the 2.0 beta until it is out. So you might as well wait till then instead of arguing about what they may or may not do.

So I was wondering, if the 2.0 beta will be coming to us before the 2.0 live (which is common sense, I know but hold on a sec) will there be a wipe of information between the 2.0 beta and 2.0 live?

I know in most games the beta character progression and what not are erased sense it is a beta, but with FFXIV just upgrading from 1.XX to 2.0 will there be a wipe of character progression between the 2.0 beta and the live release?

Edit: To try and clarify: Your 1.XX characters will not be wiped, but stored for later when 2.0 goes live. The progress you made in the 2.0 beta will be wiped. Since it is a beta.
