The memories. Nostalgia takes me when I watch these kind of vids. That's why I found XI's trailers "perfect" in a sense:

Actually from the older road map showing content too soon before release was kinda big. Like 5-6 months before launch. It will be short waiting period but I still feel they NEED to show something. Also content and stuff is still not even ready so there isnt all of 2.0 even fully debugged yet. Or this has been 1 big joke and they are just milking it.
You have zero idea if the content is or isn't made, once they finished the client and server infrastructure it clearly stated they were basically working on 2.0 related content while porting over the older stuff. Trust me, the amount of people on 2.0 isn't just twiddling their thumbs while a handful of people work on the UI and network code.Actually from the older road map showing content too soon before release was kinda big. What do you know? half of users in this forum is real game developers and happens to be producer and PR managers! Many multi talented dudes here. You have zero idea if the content is or isn't made, once they finished the client and server infrastructure it clearly stated they were basically working on 2.0 related content while porting over the older stuff. All I gotta say is hopefully they're doing this in order to not repeat previous mistakes (releasing stuff too early).
Trailers never really show what the game is going to be like anyway. 'Specially for a game like this. There is no telling if the content being shown will hold it's value however long after it's release like XI.

Having not read any more of this thread than the first two pages, I'll just say this:
Gotta love the gimme, gimme, gimme attitude of players. SE may have chosen to not show a trailer at E3, and how exactly does that affect you? You don't get to see a 5-second snippet of what's coming in 2.0? Totally warrants a complaint thread. Even if a trailer WAS shown, who's to say it wouldn't have been 95% current content?
Plus, think about it from a business standpoint; a marketing standpoint. I know that's difficult to do, since most of us are stuck in our little self-absorbed worlds with limited perspective. Imagine SE showed a trailer of FFXIV at E3 which showcased some amazing footage. The promise of a game that would change MMOs as we know it. The most amazing trailer ever. And this trailer sparked sudden interest in people who have never heard of the game, have been holding off, or have quit playing some time ago. Now these gamers decide to look up the game online to find more info, and to their surprise, it's online right now!
They buy the game, update it, play it, and not long after, realize there are things missing from the game that were showcased in the trailer. They've been lied to; cheated. They're playing something different from what they were promised. They promptly quit and never bother again.
The game is in a very delicate state right now. Things are even more difficult with the current version being publicly available. Handing out a little bit of information at a time could hurt the game's future much more than it could help it. I completely agree with the producer's letter in that a crapload of information should be overwhelmingly handed out to the public when it is available. Incite interest, get them to log on and see the changes for themselves, and then they'll get hooked. Piece-mealing it at this point would be a terrible idea, especially considering the fact that this E3 will have Nintendo's new system and first party exclusives, GTAV, possibility of PS4 and next Xbox, along with all of their major exclusives. Any FFXIV info would be so minor in comparison, it wouldn't be worth it.

I just want some unedited 2.0 gameplay footage. I really don't care about or need a fancy trailer.
Again, as I said before, people are acting like SE is going to do nothing at E3 just because they decided to put off the trailer.
You people need to go outside there some many tears going need a boat to get to otherside
Doesn't look as though we'll get any damage control from the English speaking representatives today as it's what, night time now in the States? The Japanese side have a thread expressing their displeasure at the news, though it isn't as striking as this thread. They, rather than wanting to see the movie are more annoyed at the general ambiguity of the letter (having both lead us to believe there'll be something but then taking that away).
Hoping we see it clarified on what to expect soon.
