See, your problem is that you fall into the group of people that save everything and rarely ever vendor, sell, or throw things away. You are a pack rat. That's not necessarily a bad thing (it can be beneficial)... but you only have yourself to blame for running out of space.

I will admit that when we only had 1 retainer and 4 grades of items, that it was a problem. But they have over doubled ours space and eliminated half the materials in the game. We now have PLENTY of space for people who aren't pack rats.
well I admit tht, why they get alted, the problem runs into that alot of the armor I make for myself or others uses like often 2-3 different dyes. And even if I go out in the field for just that dye I' going to come back with 10 others. I spent 5 hours at the camp east of dragonhead harvesting and logging for pine logs, when I came back I had over 10 different dyes just grade 0. Now I could toss al the others, or save myself the headache of the trip next time.

Alot of these thigns are ore, low drop rate shared by alot of items and not worth the headache to hunt when you need them, so easier to save them up when you get them.

Take mulled tea, this thing requires 5 items, that if you buy are from 3 towns, cost 9k *I think or was it 6k* and work out to about 3k each to buy, having those items in stock is easier then buying, and if you plan to harvest them, they are in 2-3 different towns and different camps. and some food is far worse then that,

Yeah it's being a bit stupid I admit :> but too often I've found myself needing ingredients to make something, and look at the collection list, they are from like 5 different places, so figure bahhh lets check wards, and only half are sold. And none of the items they are made from are being sold either.

Part of me feels like more space is always better.

Part of me feels like we already have more than we need.

I don't know where the line between making the player exercise discipline gets crossed over into hurting the player's experience.

I've gone several weeks with full inventories & retainers, only to turn around and realize I don't need 20+ slots worth of it anymore---OR I'll synth through 10-20 slots over a weekend.

HQ materials add a certain amount of 'extra required space,' but for me personally, my last MMO was FFXI...and without extra gear sets for specific situations, inventory management in XIV is a joke (again, my experience).

well leveling up 2 or more combat jobs of different types will mean weapons/armor sets that can easily quickly add up over time. Part of why I have been focusing more on crafts

I'm doing THM/CON/GLA, but there's not much need/benefit to carrying more than 1 item for most/all slots.

Just want to clarify when I cited gear sets, I was talking about having 4-5 pieces that you use to help land debuffs, 5+ pieces for maximizing damage, gear to help recover MP, different weapons for specific situations, etc.

For GLA I'll carry defensive gear, and possibly more melee-focused stuff, but equipment does not currently make an enormous difference.

For DoM I have some extra MP gear that I never use, and my PIE/INT+ pieces.

More inventory will always make things easier, but at a certain point I really do want some restrictions. I don't know if it's strictly my personality, or if it's more that XIV has like 2-3 times as much inventory space as anything I've ever played.

While I think our houses (when we get them) should have storage, I think the current amount we have is fine. The bottom line is that if you're being a pack rat, that's your fault, not the storage system's. No, I don't think that leveling a bunch of different DoH/DoL classes is a valid excuse. Inventory management is a part of any MMORPG.

I am constantly running out of inventory space on main account + 2nd account for storage. I play every class just about evenly, so I carry 10-20 crafting tools, 6 gathering tools, 10+ weapons, ammo, 4-5 sets of gear and of course at least 15-20 items in repair materials to repair all your items. This is just in required items to carry, not counting all the items you save up for future crafting, current crafting etc...

Since we go into Fatigue so quickly, I cant just grind through all my materials without feeling like I'm wasting time/gil in the process. So since I rank up all the crafting classes, I have at minimum 2-3 items per crafting class, if not more because I am saving them for future ranks.

Like 1 poster above says, I don't keep the dye anymore since the moss/stainsand etc stack, but I do keep those in inventory, and all the required materials to synth it. I don't know about you, but if you do GSM or BSM you will need 100's of stacks of nuggets, its not always easy to buy the ores, sometimes nuggets are a good buy and you get 10 stacks or so of each and you save for once you aren't in fatigue anymore.

Anyways, I am constantly using 500+ spaces between 2 characters just to manage all my crafting/gathering/battle classes. I hope once I get to 50 on my crafting classes I can start to open up some free space. But the whole fatigue system is causing me to store at least 100-200 more inventory spaces in materials waiting to be synthed.

Lets not mention you need to keep 30+ spaces open if you want to craft because some crafting items don't stack. And while gathering, you want to keep 50+ spaces open because your inventory fills up very fast. 30 spaces can be full in about 30 minutes, gathering still gives +1, +2 and +3 materials.

I vote to allow us to pay for additional retainers, or ADD IN THE MAIL SYSTEM and we can create additional characters and mail it back and forth. I would rather have the retainers, as access to them is easier and more efficient. You could set a limit of only 2 retainers can be in the wards at anytime. Please SE, allow us more retainers.

Leveling several different crafts is a worthwhile argument. Especially in situations where you need to rank up several sub jobs just to make all your crafts recipes.

Some people feel they have more inventory than they need, because they are still looking at this game as if it was a traditional one Class per character mold. Which it is not, the game pushes the concept of playing many classes on one character, its one of the core features,

Will be interesting to see the general reaction to inventory space once Rank Requirements get added in and everyone is now forced to carry a separate set of gear for each character or clog their retainers with gear sets.

I think general inventory should be looked at in a mostly traditional MMO style. But Gear, Arrows, throwing weapons and Baits/Lures should be looked at freshly and adjusted later.

I started a discussion about some suggestions for changes here [Link].

i stockpile way to much when it comes to crafting materials. I also find that i carry way to much gear on me at a given time. I know that i need to do something about clearing out the junk i don't need any more from my inventory but i just never seem to get around to it.

i personally love current system. it feels like marketplace, you canb go around and just browse stuff. People who have problems with it, are just too lazy to move their ass to get item they want. MArket wards are crafters paradise. yuo can sit between your retainers and have all items at hand. and mailbox would be great help. I can agree with that. but auction house is not the best idea ever. Vendor system is much better, and is much better for crafter that actually enjoy selling, and is willing to puit some effort into researching prices.

I am very short of space, yesterday both my retainers were 110/110 and I had 20 free spaces. And its not just being a pack rat, all the stuff I need for crafting.

In the short term an extra retainer would do. I am getting to the stage where I am willing to pay the monthly fee just so I can get another retainer (or 2). In the long term some kind of player/guild housing with storage would be best. Guild storage would be excellent as some of the stuff I have is due to me being the LS Alchemist and having to hold all the dyes, reagents and stuff for when it is needed.

I am reluctant to get an alt as it is awkward to transfer between characters unless you dual-box and I don't have a second computer to run the game on.
