Certain Gear Still Looks Low Quality Even After Graphics Update Has Been Applied.

Certain older gear pieces are still extremely low-quality in terms of graphical fidelity, even after the Graphics Update has been applied to them. Notably:
-Gambler's Trenchcoat
-Yanxian Merchant's Haori
I'm sure there are many other examples, but there are horrendously low-quality textures on both of these, and the materials didn't get the same love that the Artifact Armor updates did. I feel like everything should get equal treatment instead of some pieces of gear obviously getting more love than others.

Were those pieces actually updated? Because well over half of the game's equipment has not yet been updated. Also, things that were given a dual dye channel aren't necessarily updated either.

They stopped doing the Graphics Update silently. We saw very little of it in the first patch or two, and then it just completely dropped off. I doubt they gave up, so my assumption is they hit a major roadblock and are instead going to roll the rest of it out at 8.0 launch. That's my assumption, but we'll see. It may have been something like needing to overhaul something or not being able to do it in phases like they thought they could.

Thats not true. They have been slowly updating npcs and their character's gear. Ive been tracking many of them. In the last patch (7.4), we had updates to Gaia and Ryne. And we also had gear upgrades for these characters attire: Gosetsu, Minfilia, Alma's dress, Ryne's Oracle set, Y'shtola's ShB dress, Fat Cat loungewear and the Palaka gear set. The patch notes even made mention of face edits for eyebrows on Face 2 Miqote. Plus many hats added for Hroth and Viera.


I have been tracking the changes and waiting specifically for Moenbryda and Papalymo to get some love as they are the last Scion's who havent been updated yet and Moen's hair clips into her head massively now! To be fair, I am getting annoyed that some major characters havent been overhauled yet... *cough cough* ZENOS!

A lot of pieces simply haven't been updated, as they haven't updated everything yet...

In fact with some of these things you are more than likely not going to see the original asset updated, but rather just a reskin into an entirely new item, which they have done quite a lot when it comes to reusing assets.

I've actually been wondering if they are going to do a random graphics patch somewhere to address more of the remaining npcs/gears later. Or do they intend to drag overhaul updates into 8.0 and beyond....

There are also a lot of changes Id like to see moving forward such as texture updates to buildings/rugs/dishes/monsters/etc. As an example, if you replay the Uldah/Gridania opening cutscenes, the chocobo carriage you ride in on has a lot of glaringly bad textures that could be improved. The drawers behind Miounne in the Carline Canopy in Gridania are another area that look horrendous and catch my attention.

Honestly as long as they keep overhauling assets, I wont grumble about it. But I do hope they dont stop entirely. No matter how long it takes, the changes are worth it!

If that's the case, why weren't they in the patch notes? And when there are patch notes, hardly anything gets changed.

For example, they've changed a set of relic weapons and a few NPCs/mogstation items. Or they've updated Western Thanalan. And... that seems like it? If they are doing much more without including it in the notes, then that's very strange.

It is in the patch notes. Not everything has been exhaustively notated, but the 7.4 notes explicitly state a list of gear and "certain NPCs" have had their gear and models improved.

I think the only open-world zones we're waiting to be updated are parts of Coerthas and Rak'tika.

The definitely haven't updated all the gear yet; I hope they do get around to it, but there is still 7.5 left to do and then the mini-patches as they finish releasing 7.5. It may be that everything will have to wait until 8.0, but they're still plugging away at it.

They probably should've made a special site for the graphics update to show its progress, because it's become kind of ambiguous. Are they done updating character appearances, or are we going to get another update and another fantasia? How complete is the graphics update? Unless you've got your own checklist it's kind of hard to keep track of what has and hasn't been updated yet.

Basically they've updated everything that is in the online store, important npcs outfits (Scions, rulers...), most of the job gears (6.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, not sure about 5.0), same for the relics and some glams but there's still a lot to update, all the dungeons/raid/tomestone gears and more. We don't even know if they will update every gear.

We're also waiting for the rework of the remaining areas (the 2 Coerthas areas, Rak'tika, Ultima Thulé, The Tempest, Mor Dhona...).
No idea if they will also update the old mounts/minion, quite unlikely.

And I would not be surprised if they announce more graphics updates in the fanfest as the one of Dawntrail was quote: "the first graphics update".
