    They did this in some of the SWtOR dungeons. If you had certain professions sufficiently leveled you could activate shortcuts or objects that would help you for a particularly difficult pull or something. I’m not sure how well it would work in ffxiv because everyone who touches DoH/DoL is an Omni-crafter and specialization is a rather minute difference. But a good idea nonetheless IMO.

    Maybe FFXIV needs a more robust and limited specialist system than just “soul of the crafter”.

    People don't want more robust and interesting crafting and gathering; they want further simplification so that they can rush through it as quickly as possible and jump to getting gil. If SE made crafting a pure stat check, where you could instantly make any HQ item if you hit a specific Craftsmanship/Control threshold, the reception would probably be overwhelmingly positive.
