    Botanist and Miner revamp; trees and sculptures

    I’m in the horticulture field in real life, and I find it puzzling that Botanists cannot grow trees by harvesting cuttings in the game to grow different types of trees. There could be a whole market for this. Imagine being able to find a rare tree cutting via harvesting and then you grow it into a tree via a house. You could have ornamental trees or even fruit trees that enable you to receive fruit for crafting and a small daily exp buff. The trees could be marketed on the MB and such. Maybe even do bonsai as another form of a botany art.

    Then for Miners, you could have the ability to harvest certain kinds stones and rocks. Like, it would take a certain amount of a certain type of rock to fit them all together. Then we would be able to sculpt them into sculptures and statues. They could give a minor stat buff like foods do as the sculptures “inspire” you.

    What are your thoughts?

    You're suggesting they make Gathering and Crafting fun. Hold up, we don't do that here. You click your target and hit collect 4 times and repeat and you like it.

    I'd be happy if we didn't get excluded from dungeons and PvP when on DoL and DoH classes. For example Copperbell Mines: This would be the perfect place for a Miner to shine.

    An idea like this may work in Japan but surely not in NA. People already flip out if tanks don't wall to wall pull. Imagine if someone wanted to stop and mine multiple times per run.
    I'm curious now actually cuz I know classic wow did have it like this but I wonder if retail still kept that without push back?

    I'm terms of the OP's suggestion.
    I agree! It doesn't make sense that bot/min are so barebone compared to fishing.

    For Copperbell Mines in particular, I was thinking more about a difference between "You take the normal, long and winding path and take three minutes or more per blocked passageway" and "Your miner blasts through shortcuts like they aren't even there, and also gets unique nodes on the way."

    Personally, I don't want the Gathering process to be more involved than it is. Look at it like this, no matter how interesting you make something, repetition will break it.

    You very rarely gather one or two nodes at a time, save for timed nodes which you don't have a choice on the matter at all, you gather hundreds, maybe thousands of nodes, the saving grace here is that it is very low impact, you do it while watching something, having conversations, so on, by making it more involved, this will still lead to hundred to thousands of nodes being gathered... but now it demands much more attention, you can't be doing other things while doing this, and while this minigame was fun once, twice, maybe ten times, by the time you are on 30th or 40th... you are so incredibly done with it, it just grates on you, and you aren't even halfway done, it turns what is a simple, low impact session into a grueling, miserable process.

    In content that revolves around repetition, tedium is inevitable, no matter how interesting you make it, so with that in mind, I prefer to make it simple, so that I can at least find something relaxing in it.

    I’m currently rooting a butterfly bush branch cutting, male & female winterberry hollies branches (the male just put out some early leaves), and Arabian jasmine vine cuttings (they are already putting out more vines and even something that looks like flower buds) at my job. It’s actually not hard to propagate plants.

    They did this in some of the SWtOR dungeons. If you had certain professions sufficiently leveled you could activate shortcuts or objects that would help you for a particularly difficult pull or something. I’m not sure how well it would work in ffxiv because everyone who touches DoH/DoL is an Omni-crafter and specialization is a rather minute difference. But a good idea nonetheless IMO.

    Maybe FFXIV needs a more robust and limited specialist system than just “soul of the crafter”.
