I don't play the game to be endlessly trolled by others though, and that's all Rescue exists for in my experience. I don't even bother to keep it on my own healer hotbars because its just harmful bloat and I don't want to risk a report over an accidental pull.

To me it's just a griefing tool allowed in PVE content, as opposed to PVP where it makes sense that some jobs have skills to yank someone into danger. Which, should tell you a lot that the pulling skills in PVP ONLY exist to kill other players, not to save anyone.

Man, this is the reason why we need Trusts in more content because only NPCs are safe to play with anymore it seems. Someone using Rescue on me might as well have ran a tankbuster or other lethal mechanic onto me, same difference.

    I see.
Not only you're bad at the game you're also "allergic" to being among humans.

Another favorite use for me with rescue is pulling a tank out of the center of the arena to the south in the Garuda fight after she takes out the pillars. Some tanks will just hold her in the middle tornado and keep going back in when they get pushed out, meaning all the dps need to be in the middle too. Using it to reposition ppl who are standing in ongoing mechanics and just wont budge because they are either trolling or just don't know any better (no matter how stupidly obvious it sometimes is, like in Garuda) is another great and helpful use. The ppl freaking out for losing control of their character for a whole second and act like it's some giant violation against their person are just funny to me. Thinking about why you were rescued first would be the better place to put that energy. The ppl who have only been "trolled" with it, likely actually needed the rescue some of those times, but refuse to admit any fault of their own that made that rescue required.

The only time I ever said anything to someone for rescueing me was when a healer pulled me out of the bio puddle that you need to stand in to keep the slimes from spawning in CT, causing slimes to spawn. And that was because they didn't know the mechanic so better to just let them know.

People told me that you can use rescue in Bozja to make people get hit into aoe in critical encounters so they get disqualified from getting into duels.

I'm "allergic" to players with obvious ill intent, which is what every Rescue supporter comes off as because I doubt they mean well when they so adamantly defend a known griefing tool that rarely actually saves people (if it ever actually has, and they're not just lying about their successes).

I would not be shocked if they are indeed the same kind of people who purposefully run dangerous/lethal mechanics into others or generally troll during fights to cause wipes because they certainly come off as the type. Anything for the "lulz" and whatnot.

I find it very disorienting too, and that's one (among several) reasons I rarely use it. Buuut...of the few times I have used it successfully, it was because of the yoink. Grabbed a sprout tank with Mortal Flame on them in The Grand Cosmos, and successfully got them to run through some flammables. Another time, a DPS out in the sticks wouldn't bring their friends over to the tank; yoinking them also yoinked their buddies into the tank's AoE.

As annoying as the yoink is, it has its uses. I wouldn't cry if it was removed though or changed to something else.

To those clucking smugly about some non-existent ego trifles; nah personally I'm fine with dying to the mechanic I haven't seen before actually, it if happens. The nap on the floor gives time to reflect on what exactly happened in relative peace, and whatever other novel ponderance finding its way in, like whether " ." was an allegory of the game's singularity. Bonus catching up on sleep debt too!

Haven't been targeted with the skill overly much though honestly. When it has happened it was the classic misclick, but fortunately I had whimsy on hand to make fun out of it. Never has been useful from my anecdotal standpoint. I do have a friend who likes to troll me with it, but so far ends up pratfalling every time trying. A test of reflexes indeed (great friend btw lmao, love him loads).

I think it has more to do with how it's rendered too. The slide along the floor while you lose control over your character. It triggers certain panic reflexes you know? The brain tends to associate forced movement with "bad" in most cases I would've thought. In that state you don't really take in what's happening, so it makes for a poor learning tool. In pvp, while it lasted, oh boy... felt like 90% of all those going on me was trolling. The ONE guy who used it interestingly was someone that would drag me to enemies out of my current reach to kill. That was a really cool way to apply it and much appreciated there. The other instances can go to hell. Glad it's been banished from there.

Tl;dr the skill could do with being implemented differently. As it is it's too disorientating and imo the rate of good vs bad outcomes swings towards bad. Game suffers with a great dearth of utility skills but... Rescue ain't no Cover.

at this point I’m convinced some players just want to play the blandest visual novel disguised as an mmo. Why ask to remove one of the most unique spell in the game? I literally cannot understand why some people cannot stomach some MMORPG elements in xiv.

I just mostly forget it exists 99% of the time. I just can't react fast enough to make it work, and the game doesn't ignore the area the character you're rescuing across. It feels like an ability that was not tested in higher ping.

Personally I would suggest a replacement like "Shell" or something, being a sheild that makes you near invincible for a couple seconds (90% defense buff?) every 5 minutes. Things guaranteed to kill still will, but it'd let players endure the bad stuff, has no troll potential, and has other utilities.

Leave it in. It's fun to use well, can save a run, and even when you mess up it's usually hilarious. I've got a lot of cherished memories in this game because of Rescue.
