An offering of help for the struggling players in casual content

You can't teach things like spatial awareness, depth perception, short-term memory, and cognitive processing.

I think you can teach players many things to make up for those they can't. Taking advantage of the game's scripted fights is one of them. There are many other things you can do besides relying entirely on your memory span.


Also, it's a multiplayer game, and my main point in the first post was that I was wondering if those struggling would be willing to search for/accept help if people went out of their way to make a specific space for them to learn or clear whatever they need. It's not exactly about them just figuring it out themselves or accepting defeat because the game is being nasty to you, it's actually the opposite :D

I commend you for reaching out and offering help. Genuinely, that is a kind act. And it's quite possible there are players who would take up that offer and thus enjoy the game more.

We've been promised in 8.0 the current boss fight design philosophy will be pushed even further (see 7.2 changes to BLM as one example). The fact OC fights are essentially just a standard arena boss fight moved outdoors is consistent with this miserable decision.

There are many who dislike this design. There are also an increasing number of players who, however many guides they watch and help they receive, find the fights too difficult. I have watched my FC dissolve because of this.

If you can keep more players happy and in the game, SE will thank you. You'll be part of a much smaller player base.

We've been promised in 8.0 the current boss fight design philosophy will be pushed even further (see 7.2 changes to BLM as one example)

I would love to see them go back to the ARR-style with its quirky mechs. Didn't they talk more about job changes rather than boss fight design, or where did they also mention the latter one? I'm guessing you mean YoshiP's comment about falling asleep while doing EW dungeons.

Thank you, yes, I am stubborn. I chose to prog the MSQ dungeons with NPCs and had no choice other than to be carried through the trials. It was unenjoyable. Similarly I took a crack at M1N and the idea of subjecting myself to more of that content meant I ignored the remainder.

However, when instanced PvE is low on the list of reasons of why you play the game in the first place, and is required to progress the MSQ, an increasing number of players are concluding that it is just not worth the bother.

Felt I should return to this thread, and this post in particular, as you made a great point here.

As have previously said, I don't consider myself to be any good at the game. However, was discussing this with a friend a few weeks ago, partly bemoaning how much I love the QueensKnight weapons from 'Recollection' Ex and how disappointed I was that I'd never see my favorite of the bunch (the QueensKnight Syrinxi) on 'my' back.

After quite some persuasion said friend convinced me to join them, and a team of their friends (most of whom had already cleared it), to give Recollection Ex a try. And they made it clear that there wouldn't be any criticism if/when the team wiped and they'd simply explain what I did wrong and try again.
It admittedly took us three days to get the clear, partly because I was only able to spare a few hours each try) - but we did.
And I now have a weapon I thought I'd never own.

So I guess even a poorly-performing player like me can get it right so long as the right support is there!

I would never have bothered with the Neir raids had I not needed the boots.

So, yes, an additional motivation and willing friends will allow clears of difficult content.

The issue I see is that as more and more normal content gets more challenging, it peels off an increasing sub-section of the player base.

All the more reason to look for help in other players. You have already experienced and seen what a little help can do to a player's experience, so I'd take it as a sign to get out there and make some new connections!

Appreciated! Although I really don't think I'd want to go anywhere near Extreme content with any group other than the one that I completed Recollection Ex with! I maintain, my experience of trying the more difficult content via PF was miserable and I came close to cancelling my sub after some of the comments (and a player did actually suggest I do so) I received following those attempts.
