While "out of sight, out of mind" is a step in the right direction, there are some major flaws with the current system that allow blacklisted individuals to keep harassing people out of the game.

People I blacklist should NOT be able to still see me/what I post in the game.

Blacklist additions should be account-wide so I don't have to go add people to each character and hope they're still online by the time I relog to do so.

I hope SE fixes this in future updates to help players feel TRULY safe in the game, rather than just providing the fragile illusion of safety that the current system gives us.

The blacklist is objectively worse than it used to be because now the blacklist shares data with the client so it’s incredibly easy to use a plugin to use one tiny bit of info to scope out every character linked to an account

The stalking plugin is such big news even yoshi p commented on it and they did a (hasty) fix (that didn’t fix it)

The old blacklist would be better at this point because at least it didn’t share data with the client

Honestly, I don't care if they know all of my characters. It doesn't matter to me as long as they can't see my characters/what I write in-game.

It would also be nice if you blacklist someone, it also removes you from their friend list too.

Black list isn't better, you can now be backtracked (so to speak) through the account blocklist to all your other characters.
Also, imagine if this was abused to ostracise someone. That would be horrific.

One way blocklist is the perfect balance. From your point of view the person to all intents doesn't exist. At the same time the blocked person isn't affected if the blocking is uncalled for.
The point at which you need to vanish, is probably the point at which you probably need to stop logging in. I know the game means a lot, I really do and that's fine, but it's just a game.

What needs to change, is of there is objective proof in game chat logs of harassment SQX should be willing to change character (and now account >:/ ) IDs.
Or maybe SQX should be able to hide a character, but ONLY under the worst cases, where it is FULLY evidenced in logs alone. And they can see the person is stalking in location data.

Just embarrassing Square Enix. I mean I'll bet black people have got worse shit to deal with and couldn't give a ... , but for your own pride CB3, sortc that out. And it doesn't need to wait until 8.0.

The Old Blacklist would just mean the person would hang around you and not know you blacklisted them. At least now you shouldn't be able to see or interact with them.

My thing about the people bypassing the blacklist function is that they are doing what I consider is cyber stalking.

As much as it would be nice to prevent weirdos from being weirdos, in my opinion, once you cross the line of using third-party programs to bypass functionality to harass and stalk people, it's gone beyond the game's purview and entered more of a criminal realm of behavior.

Any reasonable person who is blacklisted by somebody would take the hint they are not welcome around that person anymore. So anybody who would bypass game functionality to continue to contact them is making a conscious effort to harass or stalk someone.

As much as it sucks that Square can't get ahead of this issue. If the distress of harassment and stalking is to such an extent that it affects the individual's peace of mind, they really ought to elevate this to a legal level not just a in game level. It's very important to recognize when harassment crosses from “annoying” into “criminal.”

You know what you are asking for and how SE will implement this, right? Then the characters you block will know instantly they are blocked. They weren't able to filter out the data of blocked characters from data transferred from the server so they won't now add that for this feature. Instead the server will tell that client that they are blocked.

And the stalking plugin will simply remove that from the game anyway.

Even if they would do it the right way, stalker plugin can just synchronize your data and chats from other clients you have not blocked. This is a fight they can't win.

All you are asking for is that "fragile illusion of safety". Unless you suggest adding a kernel-level anticheat which will be the end of the game. If SE is as competent adding kernel-level anticheat to the game as they were with the block feature its just a matter of time until all XIV players get hacked and infected with ramsomware or worse.
