Do you think one of the Scions will die on Dawntrail

First i think this is purely related to the situation in Alexandria and their people letting go of Sphene and looking into the future.

But...with the party being big now and not everyone i see having another character arc, do you think they will kill one of them or retire.

Retire in the same way Lyse did.

For exemple:
Thancred: once we arrive at the first he will probably like to stay with Ryne, soo retiring from adventure(he did said he was getting old tho).

Urianger: I have no idea, he was always the mos support character of the cast, maybe he become a teacher some day.

Y'shtola:She is slowly killing herself, but i don't see she dying before goint to the first again.

The twins still can grow a lot, soo there is potential for then.(I realy root for then). End i think if anythink happen to any of then the comunity will reenact the final days on Square HQ, so they are safe.

G'rara: this is an umpopular opion but i think his arc ended in shadowbringer, and bring him back was not necessary krile was there for longer and just now she is more active.
The problem with him dying is more that i saw it twice, i don't think i will cry on the third, i will probably cry most from the others reactions.

Estinien: Look i like the guy, he crashing on dawntrail by mistake is realy like him, but i thought he would apper just when a Dragon is related(as the obrigatory dragoon representation). We will compleate the Emet Selch checklist so Meracidia is there and with Tiamat brood there it's his oportunity, but beyond this, becomes dificult.

Krile: she is bussy with her own organization, i don't think she will stick longer than dawntrail(unfortunaly). So she is safe

Erenville: yes i count him, i think he will join us on other adventures to per honor the wish of his mother, and i still think the beast master job will be for him, so he is safe.

I don't want they to die, but if it is to move the history foward...

At this point, I don't think they'll kill any of them. The writing seems to have steered away from taking 'risks' like that.

I could see Y'shtola choosing to remain on the First though.

Doubt it. Nothing dangerous remains in Dawntrail.
Plus the writer shied away from any type of imperfection and conflict in DT.

I would say how they treated Krile, but then I remember they snubbed her twice already and rpobably forgot Krile even exists.

Back in the day, I expected that the Scions would get their backstories fleshed out, and then some would die and some would retire along the way. Then, we'd move the JV team at the Rising Stones up to Varsity and keep recruiting new members. The Rising Stones crew would get their backstories fleshed out, and then some would die and some would retire. Rinse and repeat. Every now and then an established member would make a cameo in a Big Moment relevant to their specialties and roles in the story. Maybe have an ALL-STAR REUNION for the big ending. Aether ghosts and all.

Post-Heavensward, though, it's feeling like deaths only happen to characters who were specifically introduced to die and the Scions are now an anime main cast with impenetrable plot armor. We took out the entire Ascian leadership and the manifestation of despair at the end of the cosmos still representing our losses primarily with Haurchefant, Ysayle, and Moenbryda. Thancred survived his own death monologue.

I mean, in 2025, people complain when their bestie doesn't get enough lines-per-patch; it can't be good for business to go offing them, I guess.

If I recall correctly, this part was a misleading translation. She's not actually shortening her lifespan by using magic to see, but she could potentially get hurt if she pushes herself too far. Since she hasn't really gotten the same amount of character development as most of the other main Scions (she's gotten some, but I wouldn't say she has a complete arc at the moment), I think an interesting direction to take her story in would be for her to experience a health scare as a result of overtaxing herself, which would then prompt her to contemplate whether she should continue her work or if she should settle down, but I don't see her being killed off.

You are correct.

Remember how teleporting used to cost "anima" (life-force aether) instead of gil? Imagine someone had a demanding job, but then started doing a few teleports every morning and acting like there were no additional burdens on their body or limitations to their exertion. What if they got into a situation where those additional resources are the difference between life and death and they're not even acknowledging their loss? Even if not, that can't be infinitely sustainable. One day they have to accept that the additional burdens/limitations are real. Until then, their mother would probably be pretty concerned. It'd be easy to dismiss her at first, but not forever.

Taking all four languages and the context of the story thereafter into account, it seems like that's what Matoya was saying.

I agree on the not good for business part, i do prefer all of then to stay, but it could be a way to make something feels threatening again...maybe.

I forsee in my crystal ball that one ‘scion’ will seem to face death…only to heroically return in our time of need. Truly, we never could have seen it coming. (Semi-sarcastic. I only half expect this to happen maybe I have too much faith).

I think Dawntrail isn’t really the right ‘setting’ or ‘context’ for killing off characters if that makes sense. Like, it feels like an inappropriate time in terms of writing for them to have a scion die. I think it would feel too ‘out of left field’ to have the emotional impact it could/should have. It would deny that scion from ever having a truly ‘fulfilling’ ending to their storyline.

I think things like that are something that has to be carefully harmonised with the character’s arcs, the story arcs, the setting and context in which it happens. And maybe more lol.
