We coulda had Final Fantasy XI Aht Urhgan 2, man. Imagine Tuliyollal being under siege from opposing factions who wanted to see the city state fail? Besieged but in modern hardware! Or, y'know, just SOMETHING different. Sadly not, Wuk and her Father have made all sources of interesting conflict basically disappear and now we have to coddle the infantile Alexandrians instead.
I would have enjoyed if dawntrail was similar to aht urghan and brought in a besieged type system.

Im sure tomorrow they will be wondering "Why didn't people come back for 7.1? We have 2 hours of Wuk Lamat cutscenes and an ultimate raid that 5% of players engage in!"

The day after is when WoW will have important announcements. If 7.1 turns out to be a lot of Wuk Lamat, and Blizzard decided to treat WoW better and increase the player satisfaction. FFXIV could easily get a strong hit in the immediate future.

I have been with FFXI since 2005 and FFXIV since 2010, never once giving WoW and real thought. During the EW lull I finally tried WoW and Dragonflight was not bad at all but I always intended to put it on the back burner when DT released. Then came DT which was such a massive let down both in story and in the sheer lack of anything to do for 4 months which gave us nearly a full year or diddly to really do in FFXIV. TWW then released and man has it been a fantastic experience compared to DT. Everything from the story to the content we got in TWW has been a blast and for the first time FFXIV is on the back burner for WoW, who's future seems much more bright right now. Something I never in my life thought I would say. Even the graphics of WoW grew on me.

I still think if some ppl could get over themselves and try WoW, like I finally did, FFXIV would be in a lot more trouble than it currently is. Imo they are surviving right now on fans who just refuse to look elsewhere for whatever reason.

Edit to add that even the WoW community surprised me. I always had really bad idea of the typical WoW player, but this past year has dispelled many of those thoughts. The players I have encountered have been amazing and much better than those I have had in FFXIV. It really was shocking to see how much more friendly, welcoming and helpful the WoW community has been over the FFXIV community.

Like Tural in itself had only 2”conflicting” factions, like you said the giants and wuk solves this by saving 1 guy from an animal attack……….. and the other is the literal hometown of the dawnservant that he didn’t fix all his rule time but wuk does this also in less then 3 hours (plus the entire dawnservant test phase was rigged with the spices and that some one has too give up the test too help beat the shadow full power dad). Like I argue we could have had a pretty cool game of thrones kinda back stabbing and self interested plot with all faction, trying to gain a more advantages position from this dawnservant race. Or actual civil war because people deem the old dawnservant unfit too rule or other way better stuff. Like they had civil war in endwalker in garlean but we never really saw or did directly interact with it.

I would say almost all content you do for gear (m+ and raids and even some world challenges) treat the wow player not like toddlers not knowing what buttons to press. Like tanks not pressing mits will eat shit so fast in higher keys it’s amazing. Or healer and dps players actually having to move for a lot of mechs or you just fall over if you get hit by them, plus interrupting adds and chain stunning them and other stuff. Like healer in ff14 sleep for a lot of content while wow healer actually complained that they have to do way too much in comparison then other roles.

The first half is PR speak for "we acknowledge she comes off as shallow" which is a start, but the second part is incredibly telling and for the first time pointedly highlights the pivotal mistake they've kept making since Endwalker, only this time to disastrous effect: trying to force an impression of a character or storyline on the player instead of telling the story and letting players judge for themselves.

It shouldn't be "we're hoping we can show more of what makes Wuk Lumat so great", but "we're hoping we can show what we think makes Wuk Lumat a great character." It's not up to them to decide how players receive her; they can take feedback and revise the character to be more appealing if it's in their interest to do so, but objectively forcing the notion she is without taking in player perception and autonomy is not only ignorant and a little arrogant, but it's only going to raise hackles and foster even more ill will.

I think this is what I find so frustrating about the current climate of diversity awareness in video games. Diversity is incredibly important, and we absolutely need more representation and opportunities for minorities, but making an obnoxiously over-exposed token character with a "love me" sign on their back is not the way to do it. If anything it's disrespectful, given that it others them from other characters that get treated with the nuance and humanity that makes them genuinely endearing and does far more harm than good in engendering acceptance in the gaming community.
I was with you until you got to the diversity rant. What about Wuk Lamat makes her an "over-exposed token character"?

Being female? There's so many other female characters in this game, that doesn't make sense.

Being Turali? Being from the location the new expansion is set doesn't make her a "token".

Unless you meant... but no, it wouldn't make sense to call her a token based on the identity of only one of her localized voice actresses. That would be silly.

I have a hard time guessing what the idea was. Tural was a near-utopia before we even arrived, it was practically a utopia once Wuk took the throne, and then the Alexandrians invaded, lost, and became a vassal state very quickly. Any seeds of other potential conflicts in existing lore were downscaled or just ignored, so what was the point? Was it just filler to get us to the Azem hourglass?

Ultimate raid won't be here yet tomorrow right? It comes later(in an 7.15 or something)

Personally I don't login for the MSQ, will prog EX, unreal and the alliance raid (in that order) will prob also dabble into Chaotic Cloud of Darkness but could also wait for more organised Discords for that one, seems to be a mess to get 24 decent people in PF.

I'll do the MSQ later and prob just mash my esc button during the cutscenes, I actually want to give the MSQ a fair change now after several months of not having Wuk Lamat in my sight but as I said I think I hit esc as soon as I see them.
They could even be the very first NPC to talk to even, to start the first 7.1 quest too! The horror!

There's a WoW direct too in 2 days and if they have good info on what's next for Classic (except SoD, since I don't play that version) I might just cancel my sub and wait for 8.0 to play again.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

It’s kinda funny if you think about it. All other continents and regions are fighting for there lives in the final days and had wars in mass before hand and Tural effectively does nothing all these years expect being present in the world. No political or any other interesting interactions with the world.
