Recent glamours (not gear) have felt very underwhelming in the pants/shoes/gloves design. It's not quite every set but overall there are far too many plain belted pants, similar shoes and wrist-length full gloves. I wish they'd looked for opportunities to work in useful utility pieces instead – sleeve-hiding gloves at elbow- and upper-arm-length are the really obvious ones that would be great as all-class glamour.

“How intense they are and why glams are a mess”

People will come up with literally any reason to be transphobic won’t they. What does this even mean

As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.

I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess

Holy moly, this forum really will take any topic as a chance to say something hateful, or pin problems on something irrelevant. What an unproductive use of time, it's like people don't actually want the game to improve.

It is always so surreal when people assume that some gear being unisex or some gear having different versions without a sex-based lock in a game that up until today in the year 2024 a) has many, many more gear sets that adhere to traditional or conservative views on the sexes (the most recent tank set literally has a more traditionally feminine bottom piece for female characters) and b) that's developed in a completely different cultural context than Western-centric internet or academia bubbles is because of some "idpol" or "gender identity".

(Esp. mages wearing robes...that's a long-standing trope that has nothing to do with modern identity discourse whatsoever...or elegant robes on male characters in general. Somebody call Peter Jackson and tell him his 2001-2003 depiction of elves is because of future internet discourse.)

Lifting artificial restrictions on pieces of fabric imposed based on sex has nothing to do with the relatively recent emergence of what people currently understand under gender identity.

No matter how you feel about recent ideas of gender identity as a topic, women wanting to wear pants and men rebelling against society to make the latter accepting of men wearing skirts is an idea, a concept, that long, long predates twitter discourse of the 2010s.

It's literally just the simple, basic acknowledgement that women can wear pants and men can wear skirts and that a not-unsignificant number of people would really, really like to do this very basic thing. Neither sex will die of a sudden septic shock or an allergic reaction because it's programmed into our genes that we need to wrap our legs individually in cylinders of blue fabric or both of them in one big cylinder of fabric, pink and with ruffles.

(Also, it’s integral to the history of LGB. So you can’t invoke LGB to justify you are against lifting clothing restrictions based on sex. Lesbians, gay men and bisexual men and women have always challenged those norms irrespective of any modern notions of gender identity.)

So no, I don't think only some gear sets should have options, and some gear sets should stay locked according to sex as another user suggested.
If you plan on having different versions for a piece of gear to begin with then remove the lock and make them available to everybody instead. Let everybody pick the version they want.

I also found it very bizarre for another user to pin their argument on transgender players, a connection that doesn't make any sense in hindsight. But then again, it looks like they just came in with the intent to attack.

I just want my shoes to come with socks at this point. There's also sort of modern looking shoes, but no socks.

The men of the Roman Republic found pants to be barbaric and ugly. No proper Roman man would wear pants!

The point being, how we gender clothing is completely arbitrary and is constantly in flux. I want this game to have both highly masculine outfits, highly feminine outfits, and not particularly gendered one way or the other outfits, wearable by any character of any race and any gender. Yes, sometimes that means you may very occasionally see a masculine character wearing feminine clothing. If that bothers you, uh...that's kinda sus, ngl. red flag behavior.

Let girls wear long pants and boys wear short-shorts if they want.

You can have masculine looking robes. There are even examples in game, but they seem to be popping up less and less.

But there's plenty of options out there. Hell, even real vestments can look good on men. Obviously they'd need to be changed up a bit to not rile anyone up, but the overall form can look good.

For a topic as individually perceived as glamour, it’s going to be hard to please everyone. Ultimately, it will always boil down to everyone wanting their personal taste represented, which, let’s be honest, will be hard to accomplish.

That said, I think the dev team has already adapted quite a bit and changed things. When was the last time you saw an item as revealing as the varying bikinis or the Coliseum Galerus and Subligar for example?

Why are you arguing that as a positive

I won’t need speedos (though I’d like more) but genuinly one of my biggest complaints about glam since ShB has been everything is a waistcoat or chunky robes
