Yoshi-P tells PC Gamer that he is "not shocked" by mixed DT reception

Something I have thought about constantly in regards to the expansion is how the heck did something like this get past Yoshi-P, who has always maintained a standard of quality. If he's not directly involved anymore and doesn't have a chosen successor in that position with that oversight, then that could explain the downgrade in quality.

The quality of the writing increased in SHB and EW compared to SB but ever since SHB the gameplay quality has been collapsing. We went from have a couple of jobs with issues to entire roles being terrible, EW had zero midcore content and handled critieon extremely poorly. The downgrade has been happening for 5 years gameplay wise.

I don't think she skipped it. From watching a lot of playthroughs I've noticed that a lot of people take Zoraal Ja at face value at the beginning and when you do that, he sounds nonsensical. You want to conquer the world to teach people war is bad? Like the refugees in Garlemald don't know war is bad. Like Ishgard doesn't know war is bad. What even is this?

Writing this means that you don't have context to that statement. It's not for Garlemald. It's not for Ishgard. It's for their citizens specifically that have had entire lifetimes of peace AND WANTED WAR. The Pelu Pelu and even the farmers of the city WANTED HIM TO GO TO WAR FOR THE BENEFITS. THEY SABOTAGED WUK LAMAT IN THE CHALLENGE, TO HELP HIM WIN, SO THEY COULD GO TO WAR. When your population wants to go to war without realizing how scuffed it is, yeah, that's kind of an issue to fix.

But also he stated that he believed she had a parent complex and wasn't confident. Based on what we saw, this isn't the case. She didn't show having any kind of "complex", Koana kinda did, but not Garfield. More importantly the "confidence" thing makes absolutely no sense with how she acted throughout 90% of the story. In short, I don't think Yoshi-P actually looked over the final story that was present. It seems like he saw an early draft, then it was changed and nobody told him.

She says multiple times that her brothers are better than her at everything. And talks about how great her dad is and how she can't live up to him. She has an inferiority complex. The problem is the writing doesn't commit to it or give a satisfying reason for her growth to overcome it, so it's basically just her saying that a couple times and then suddenly having the power to smash through dimensions.

He completely missed out the problem with Wuk Lamat. It has NOTHING to do with her "Not being confident enough." its Wuk Lamat taking up the MAJORITY of screen time and dialogue! Not to mention the quality of the writing and story in general being very poor. You can have a new adventure, and a new story without it being slow and painful. Not to mention the truly aggravating and painful voice acting for ENG which someone needs to question him on at some point. Not just specifically Wuk Lamat on that front either, the 4th zone cowboys and Cahciua sound like they were recorded in their office bathroom.

Another thing I'm sure has been brought up before, he DELAYED Endwalker when he was not satisfied with the dialogue in the end game. Why release content that you KNOW will get a mixed reception, and not a GOOD reception? This game lives and dies off the quality of its story. He is just asking for Bahamut to come around again. The quality and standards cannot be allowed to slip just because its a "New story arc".

It will probably take us a few expansions to have one anywhere remotely close to shadowbringers in quality. More likely we will have stormblood or heavensward quality.

Lol it's not some magic, don't pull random numbers out of your ass. Even starting next patch or next xpac we could start seeing very good things. But most likely not, because yoship.

Slightly off tangent and this is maybe a minor issue, but I just replayed Endwalker on an alt, and did anyone notice the Final Day trial starts the exact same way as the 100 trial? Both Zenos/Wuk crack through a "rift in reality" to help you defeat the final boss. Dawntrail is of course worse because of that immersion breaking terrible voice direction in that scene and Wuk finishing off the boss for you. But it's just a jarring example of a lack of creativity I noticed after playing through it again.

I believe the person you quoted was saying that judging by reviews SE's marketing strategy is not working, not that the reviews themselves are said strategy.

That still doesn’t make sense, the goal of their marketing is to get you to sub / re-sub and purchase DT. The reviews are from people who already bought into the marketing, got the product, played it, and then left a review. The only thing they can do now is to convince existing players that something better is coming, hoping we’ll continue our subscription until the next patch, and that still wouldn't change people's review of DT as it stands today. They would not attempt to persuade those who disliked MSQ that it was great after the fact. Trying to do so would be a waste of resources and would admit that MSQ isn’t up to par (because if it was good, they wouldn't be doing that to begin with), which conflicts with their goal of promoting DT to potential new buyers and returning players.

Until sales slow and subs fall, they won't say much of anything that is critical of DT's MSQ or 7.0 gameplay.

That being said, we shouldn't stop letting them know how we feel. We gotta keep the pressure on, not sure I'd want to continue if 8.0 was like 7.0's MSQ.

Stormblood me once, shame on you. Stormblood me twice, shame on me. Stormblood me three times.... Let's just not do that. Splitting the narrative and focusing on a "naive" character isn't a winning strategy.

I'd like if every expansion was Stormblood because I like good gameplay and I already have visual novels to read lol

One word: Disappointing.

The only thing I hope for after this lukewarm response to all the valid criticism of Wuk Lamat and the Dawntrail MSQ is that this isn't the last thing we are gonna hear about this. That maybe they are actually preparing some sort of statement for the next Liveletter or something, and this was just the safest answer he could give at this very moment.
Which...is still pretty weak, considering DT has already been out for some while now, and they had more than enough time to prepare better answers than this one.

However, it also kinda feels like I'm just on massive Copium at this point, and that they will just be silent about it and sit it out...and I don't like that feeling. At all.
